@spoonfulofhan Yeah, just confuses the issue. We should not have the death penalty for numerous reasons: people have been exonerated from death row, it's more expensive than life in prison, and it doesn't seem to offer a deterrent. Only reason to do it is we're a bloodthirsty society.

@LauraMiers @eatsthenews I believe they executed him a year or so later. Using a gas that was supposed to make him lose consciousness immediately - but surprise, that was not how it went and it was another awful one. He did die eventually, though.

@BCarfree @briimii Yeah, that pretty much is what happened, except I think AIDS was blamed more on being a sinner rather than just mental health. Meanwhile the White House was making jokes about it in the early days.

@LizHighleyman This is why I go wingsuit base jumping every weekend. While it's dangerous, there's a 99% survival rate, so I don't understand why people don't do it more often. Would be a low emissions way to commute! /s

@grlfrmboston @BigBicNick It's wild if you think sexual assaults didn't happen at Emerson. They were in the news more than once for mishandling cases, and those are just the ones who reported their sexual assaults.

@jcinjpn The main thing missing is what you said: if you and your kids are lucky and healthy and don't end up with ER visits or an expensive chronic issue, plus high income, it can be a good deal. But if you think costs will go down in healthcare, you haven't followed US healthcare.

Men seem to think rape only happens when it’s violent stranger in a dark alley. Stranger rape is a small percentage of sexual assault. It’s usually a friend, spouse, teacher, pastor or boss. It’s someone you trust. It happens in what you thought was a “safe” environment.

@BigBicNick A friend of mine prosecutes sexual assaults. I'll have to ask them how it's possible that the bulk of their caseload is *not* from frat houses. I'll be sure to let them know Nick the Bic with the cheap frat house sunglasses said he never saw it happen.

@singingsox I've always been a bit suspicious of people who trumpet how good they are. I wouldn't say I'm unusually good, just unusually sick. If I weren't so sick, not sure I'd be some brilliant ally, but I also don't think punching down on sick people would be my online hobby.

Many disabled people experience grief. The grief of losing your abilities over time. The grief of being abandoned by friends and family. The grief of never having the life you wanted. The grief of not being thought of in society. The grief of not being seen. It can be so heavy.
