I voted to increase sanctions on Russia as it continues its war of aggression in Ukraine. Ukraine is in dire need of additional U.S. support that President Trump has been unwilling to provide. This bill will increase the pressure on Putin and deliver a win to President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people.

From Russians paying for Don Jr's wedding, to Jared Kushner cutting real-estate deals while negotiating in Ukraine, to President Trump himself profiting more than $1 billion during the presidency – policy decisions in the Balkan nation of Bosnia are enriching the President's closest political allies while Americans struggle financially at home.

In today's @HouseForeign Europe Subcommittee hearing on the Western Balkans, I used my opening statement to highlight the report's conclusions: 1) removing sanctions on Bosnian Serb secessionist Milorad Dodik did not change his behavior 2) a $1 billion sole-source contract was facilitated to two Trump loyalists, including the brother of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn These decisions have enriched the President's friends and undermined our credibility in the Balkans.

Donald Trump Jr’s Bahamas wedding was bankrolled by a Russian oligarch. Jared Kushner, the man negotiating peace in Ukraine, was at the wedding. Steve Witkoff has called Putin gracious and kind. When the Trump family is so financially connected to the Kremlin, we shouldn’t be surprised that Ukraine is on the losing end of their “negotiations.” It’s long past time Jared and Steve are removed from such a consequential role.

A quarter of a century is not an insignificant amount of time. But for so many of us - especially those in New York, Boston, and Washington DC - 9/11 still feels raw and shocking. Right now, more than 100 million Americans, roughly 1/3 of our population, were born after 9/11 or were too young at the time to remember it. Twenty-five years later, it remains impossible to adequately explain to them what that day and the aftermath were truly like. As we look back, I hope we instill in this post-9/11 generation that goodness and courage and community can spring from the most heinous of actions. And I hope our country never forgets the innocent lives lost, including the first responders who toiled in the wreckage at the cost of their own health. I'm deeply disturbed by the glorification of Ratko Mladic and the Serbian government's tacit endorsement of his funeral.   An international tribunal found Mladic guilty of war crimes and genocide including against 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica.   My thoughts are with Mladic's victims and all those who suffered as a result of his actions.

Jared Kushner wants a "win-win" scenario, essentially rewarding Russia for invading Ukraine and starting this war. Steve Witkoff has called Vladimir Putin "gracious," "smart," and "straightforward." These are supposed to be our “peace envoys” working to end this war when the only thing they are doing is kissing Putin’s ass. This is not just amateur hour. Both Kushner and Witkoff's billion dollar business deals with foreign governments compromise their ability to negotiate on behalf of our country. And once again, it shows this administration is more focused on making money than making peace. Everyone knows this to be true: Vladimir Putin's goal is to destroy Ukraine, nothing less. We need to bring Jared and Steve home and stop capitulating in these peace talks.

Today, I led @HouseForeign Europe Subcommittee Dems in demanding Brendan Hanrahan, the lead Europe official at the State Department, provide immediate testimony on the Trump administration's policies towards Europe. President Trump's reckless trade war, attacks on our European allies, and pro-Russian policies in Ukraine demand accountability and oversight and we believe the American people deserve to hear directly from the Administration as soon as possible.

Today, marks 1 year since the Trump administration’s first illegal boat strike in the Caribbean. This first strike included the infamous “double tap” second engagement that violated international law by firing on a disabled vessel ultimately killing 11 people. In the subsequent year, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth have expanded operations in the region attacking more than 60 vessels and killing over 220 people. I believe these attacks are illegal extrajudicial killings that raise profound questions regarding the use of force, congressional oversight, and legitimacy of the President’s boat strike campaign. At the same time, it calls into doubt sworn testimony provided by Secretary Hegseth who claims these strikes have meaningfully upended drug trafficking into the United States. The Washington Post and other outlets have proven Secretary Hegseth’s statements are far from the truth. Countless individuals are still missing as a result of these attacks, and their families continue to search for answers about the fate of their loved ones. One year on, these families as well as the American people, deserve a full accounting of what President Trump is doing in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, and House and Senate Republicans must initiate investigations into whether Secretary Hegseth and President Trump have followed the appropriate protocol to distinguish between innocent civilians and armed combatants. I believe they haven’t and we must hold them accountable.

The President's attempt to distract from his failed trade policies doesn't change the affordability crisis facing so many in MA. What could possibly be the rationale for rolling back regulations that will undoubtedly compromise our public safety? This isn’t helping legal gun owners. It helps gun dealers who repeatedly violate the law by failing to conduct background checks. It helps people with mental health disorders to secure a gun. And then when tragedy strikes - as it inevitably will with the revocation of common sense gun regulations - all that this Administration will offer is thoughts and prayers. For 250 years, our great experiment has faltered, flourished, evolved, and progressed. The American experience is ever-changing and as diverse as the people who call this country home. But one thing has remained constant – the idea of America has always been a beacon of hope. Protecting this country and the ideals and values it was founded on takes work. Democracy is demanding. It takes dedication and principle. And it takes the resounding belief that upholding those ideals and values is worth the fight because America is bigger than any one person. Because liberty can only truly endure when it is paired with responsibility, virtue, and a commitment to put public good ahead of personal ambition. Today, we celebrate the moment when our founding fathers openly declared that creating this country, based in liberty, was a necessity in the face of tyranny. Their legacy is that leadership requires courage when it’s difficult, integrity when no one is watching, and a willingness to put country above self. We must remember that our duty is not merely to the next election, but to the next generation. That should be the challenge for all Americans as we look forward to another 250 years. On Monday, our office suffered an unimaginable loss. Chris Matthews, my District Outreach and Communications Director, passed away unexpectedly. If any one of you begin to lose faith in our country, remember Chris Matthews. Remember he was without question one of the Commonwealth’s sharpest political minds – a generational talent. Remember that he was more than a Congressional aide. He took the belief that through our actions we all can bring needed change and brought it with him on many interstate bus rides to canvas distant pivotal states and to the doors of the families he inspired. Remember through his example that public service is a genuinely noble vocation. As a trusted member of our office, he helped countless veterans, families, and those who could not advocate for themselves. Those of us privileged to have worked with him for over fifteen years will remember his laugh and his wry, often biting, humor – contrasting the way things are to the way they could be. We will always remember his authentic belief that in this country, people can bring about progress and meaningful change. It was real to him and his sincerity shown through. Chris was a genuinely good person. He was family to all of us, and we are devastated by his loss, particularly at such a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are with Molly and Eli and the many who loved him. Though we wish we had more time with him, his memory will continue to give us faith that one person can significantly make better the lives of those around him.

The House and the Senate have now both passed a war powers resolution ending President Trump's war of choice in Iran. Congress has been clear on behalf of the American people that this war must end.   Yet, the President has signed an MOU that simply kicks the can down the road on Iran's nuclear program while providing billions in sanctions relief. The administration must brief Congress and the American people about the specifics of this deal and whether the deal will actually end the war and prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
