Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead. You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

Aus 5 Zeilen werden 500. Nicht weil es nötig ist — sondern weil Hinzufügen sich nach Kontrolle anfühlt und Weglassen nach Risiko. Aber: Je fähiger das System, desto teurer wird jede überflüssige Instruktion. Sie veraltet, widerspricht sich, und am Ende debuggst du deine eigenen Regeln statt das eigentliche Problem. Die unbequeme Wahrheit hinter dem Zitat: Komplexität ist die Default-Antwort. Einfachheit ist eine Entscheidung, die man aktiv treffen — und verteidigen — muss. This sounds very similar to what codebase-memory-mcp does (github.com/DeusData/codeb…). It builds a persistent knowledge graph from the entire repo (using Tree-Sitter for 150+ languages) so agents don’t have to stuff raw files or grep results into the context. Instead, they run structured graph queries and only get back compact, relevant results. Question: What do you see as the main differences between your approach and tools like this? Or is this basically the same pattern you’re describing, just specialized for codebases?

Als Solo-Gründer, der täglich mit KI-Tools baut, ist das ein echtes Risiko: Mein Workflow hängt an einem Schalter, der in Washington sitzt — nicht bei mir. Also habe ich heute die europäische Alternative ausprobiert: Mistral Vibe. 🇪🇺 Erster Eindruck: Es fühlt sich vertraut an — ein KI-Coding-Assistent direkt im Terminal, schnell, aufgeräumt. Aber der eigentliche Unterschied ist nicht das Feature-Set, sondern das, was dahinter steht: → Made in Europe, DSGVO-nativ → Open-Weight-Modelle, die man selbst hosten kann → Keine Abhängigkeit von einem fremden Politik-Schalter Ich glaube nicht, dass „europäisch" automatisch „besser" heißt — bei den härtesten Aufgaben liegen die US-Modelle teils noch vorn. Aber Unabhängigkeit hat einen eigenen Wert. Und Europa baut endlich Werkzeuge, die man ernst nehmen kann. Für mich heißt das: nicht alles auf eine Karte setzen. Tools austauschbar halten. Und genauer hinschauen, was vor der eigenen Haustür entsteht. "AI Platform Engineer" is becoming the new "DevOps Engineer" Which means in 18 months it will be both meaningless and the most paid title in the stack. The pattern is identical to 2014–2016. DevOps started as a culture idea, became a job title, got watered down into "Linux admin who knows Jenkins", then split — into actual platform engineering on one side, and rebadged sysadmins on the other. AI Platform is in the early phase right now. Everyone with a Python notebook is rebranding. Most of them have never operated a stateful workload on Kubernetes, debugged a GPU driver mismatch, or thought about what happens when a 70B model OOMs at 3 AM. The split is already starting: - One side: people who can run a Jupyter notebook on a managed endpoint - Other side: people who can serve, scale, monitor, secure, and budget a fleet of LLMs across regions on K8s with GPU scheduling, autoscaling, and compliance The second group will be small for years. That's the bet. If you're a Kubernetes platform engineer wondering whether to "learn AI" — you already have 70% of the stack. Add vLLM, GPU operators, Karpenter for GPUs, model lifecycle. Der EU AI Act gilt. Die meisten deutschen Mittelständler wissen, dass sie "etwas tun müssen", aber nicht was. Das ist kein Compliance-Problem. Das ist ein Plattform-Problem. Was ich gerade in mehreren Gesprächen höre: - "Wir würden gern ChatGPT für unsere Sachbearbeiter freischalten — aber Datenschutz." - "Unser Vorstand will GenAI im Produkt. Legal hat Veto, weil unklar ist, wohin die Daten gehen." - "Wir lassen unsere Mitarbeiter heimlich öffentliche LLMs nutzen, weil wir keine eigene Lösung haben." Das letzte ist das gefährlichste. Schatten-IT mit Geschäftsdaten ist in 2026 keine Hypothese mehr, sondern Realität in fast jedem Mittelstandsbetrieb. Die saubere Lösung ist nicht "ein Anbieter mit DSGVO-Häkchen", sondern Plattform-Infrastruktur: - Self-hosted LLM-Serving auf eigenem K8s (vLLM oder TGI) - Gateway davor (LiteLLM) mit Logging, Quoten, Team-Budgets - Audit-Trail für jede einzelne Anfrage — wer hat was wann gegen welches Modell geschickt - Klare Trennung zwischen Use Cases mit unterschiedlichem Risiko nach EU AI Act Das ist genau der Stack, den ich gerade aufbaue — und genau das, was Plattform-Teams in regulierten Branchen 2026 brauchen. Das deutsche Differenzierungs-Merkmal ist nicht "wir können auch AI". Es ist: "wir können AI so betreiben, dass Compliance, Vorstand und Sachbearbeiter im selben Raum sitzen können."
