The Colombo High Court has handed each of the 15 convicts a sentence between 200 to 260 years. The complicated sentencing means some terms will run concurrently, while others will be served consecutively. Very unusual.

Sri Lanka's Supreme Court says the 22nd Amendment Bill is not inconsistent with the Constitution and does not require a referendum. It can be passed with a two-thirds majority, which the JVP/NPP enjoys in the current legislature.
