𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 The 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 grew by 4.2 per cent in Q2 2026, compared to 5.0 per cent growth in Q2, 2025. 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐓𝐈 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 eased during the week after reaching their highest levels since end May, declining by US dollars 3.89 and US dollars 1.38 per barrel, respectively, compared to the previous week. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞 increased by 3 basis points to 10.76 per cent for the week ending 18 September 2026. 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 – 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 Following the release of the second bi-annual Monetary Policy Report of 2026, the @Central Bank of Sri Lanka conducted interactive awareness sessions with stakeholders, bringing together journalists, media professionals, academics, and representatives of the financial sector. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Chandranath Amarasekara, Senior Deputy Governor, with the participation of Dr. Harischandra, Assistant Governor, Dr. Lasitha Pathberiya, Director of Economic Research, Dr. Anil Perera, Director of Market Operations, Dr. Kithsiri Ehelepola, Director of Statistics, and Dr. (Mrs.) Hemantha Ekanayake, Director of Communications, together with other senior officials and technical staff of the Economic Research Department of the CBSL. Highlights of the Report were presented by Dr. Lasitha Pathberiya, Mrs. Lasantha Wijeratne, and Mrs. Poongothai Ratnavadivel in English, Sinhala, and Tamil, respectively. The discussions offered participants the opportunity to: 🔹 Gain a deeper understanding of recent macroeconomic developments 🔹 Better understand the rationale underlying the monetary policy decisions taken during the year 🔹 Discuss the outlook for inflation, economic growth, and monetary policy 🔹 Engage in constructive dialogue and exchange views on evolving economic conditions These sessions form part of the Central Bank's continued efforts to enhance transparency, deepen stakeholder engagement, and foster a clear understanding of its policy stance and macroeconomic outlook.

𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐓𝐈 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 increased by US dollars 3.34 and US dollars 2.79 per barrel, respectively. The 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞 increased to 10.95 per cent. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲 remained in surplus at Rs. 290.69 billion by 14 August 2026. 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬 decreased marginally during the week.
