Have kids already become dependent on e-bikes? They've swiftly become so ubiquitous, that perhaps we haven't even noticed. Should we make our kids peddle again? @owroot

There is a new Guess Who? with new pictures but apparently people ached for the original faces so they still produce the originals. That’s the one we have. The kids are playing it and the faces throw me back so much. I remember them so well.

The cool morning air of autumn is special. Not like the warm humidity of summer though not the bitter wind of winter. Somewhere right in the middle.

Buying the wrong overcoat is tragically easy, but the good news is it's more than possible to avoid. In our morning memo we discuss how to buy the right one this fall.

We took a lot more messages and passed them on in the days before cell phones. Remember taking messages for your mom and dad? Or letting someone know someone else asked about X?

The funniest man alive probably lives in a mid sized town somewhere, has a job unrelated to comedy, and his humor isnt appreciated by his wife or kids. He goes unacknowledged.

Every single time I come back online after being off for 24-48 hours I am hit hard in the face with the realization that the majority of everything online here is petty and pointless at best and toxic and bad at worst. That doesn't mean I think we shouldn't post online. What it means is that I think we should do our best to try to do something worthwhile. Write something real - with heart, make something we care about, share something personal which might help others, give advice on the things we've learned that someone else might appreciate. It is a sea of stupidity and pettiness here. I see it so damn clearly after being away, but there are little beacons of light. Little lighthouses of value in the sea of slop. Someone really thinking on something they know about, someone making something they care about, someone that wants to contribute something of value. That's the goal, I think.

I think we wait too long to carve pumpkins, or at least we have waited too long in our family. Instead of waiting til right before Halloween we have decided to carve them early and keep October lit with that sublime orange glow. The flickering orange of the pumpkin in the cold dark night is true American fall and I think we need to cultivate that light as much as possible.
