Disappointing one-sided reporting by @winsjuliet The driver/owner is 100% at fault for violating the laws and allowing his horse to eat copious amounts of an unknown plant. No responsible horse owner does that. His gross negligence killed his horse. He likely left the horse unattended as so many carriage drivers do. The equine Veterinarian, Dr. Craig Kulikowski testified at the City Hall July 15 carriage horse ban hearing that since the carriage horses are denied any kind of pasture or grazing areas at all, their basic needs aren’t being met, which makes it more likely that a desperate and malnourished horse would eat a yew plant, which isn’t something they normally do. The fact that this negligent man is suing the city and demanding that taxpayers pay him off after his lawless and reckless behavior killed his own horse is beyond reprehensible.

Romanch Mahajan’s uncle @gmahajan88 is calling out TWU’s shameful hypocrisy. TWU demands an apology from the City after carriage horse Deniz died because of a carriage driver’s negligence. But when another carriage driver’s negligence killed Romanch just one week later, TWU offered his family no condolences. Romanch’s Law would have taken effect June 1 if passed, before both Deniz and Romanch died. TWU is still fighting the bill that would have saved them both and would prevent the next tragedy. Horse carriages are unsafe for horses and people on NYC streets and in Central Park. TWU has now demonstrated how their own negligence has resulted in this unfortunate incident, since NYC Parks rules plainly forbid horses from eating vegetation anywhere across our 843 acres,” Blumm said in a statement. “The same rule requires carriage drivers and operators to attend to their horses at all times to keep them safe and healthy. 💔 Three months ago, 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan was killed trying to save his mother as she fell from a rampaging horse carriage. His death was entirely avoidable. The legislation to end horse carriages would have taken effect June 1. Had it been enacted, Romanch would be alive today. Instead, his shattered family lost him on June 17. Now the bill bears his name, and the Council has both the power and the responsibility to right that wrong. Yet nothing has changed. The deadly horse carriage business still leaves horses unattended and forces them to work in dangerous conditions. Horses are still spooking and collapsing. The Mahajan family is pleading with @NYCCouncil and @NYCMayor to act before another life is lost. Pass and enact Romanch’s Law now.
