Craig, Nathan Mann A Louisiana man originally charged with possessing thousands of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of animals and children has received a substantial prison term for offenses involving child sexual abuse material. Yet every animal-related charge was dropped, leaving 3,248 charges without accountability or even a public explanation. The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Nathan Mann in March 2023 following a cyber-tip. Authorities initially charged him with 106 counts of pornography involving juveniles and 3,248 counts of sexual abuse of an animal. Public reporting describes the allegations against Mann as possession of abusive images and videos. It does not state that he personally committed or recorded the abuse depicted. Mann was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on a $1 million bond and remained incarcerated while the case proceeded. Ultimately, all 3,248 animal-related charges were dropped, while the 106 charges involving child sexual abuse material were reduced to 10. On Aug. 11, 2026, Judge Michael O. Craig sentenced Mann on the remaining 10 counts. Mann received five years for each of the first five counts, to be served concurrently. He received another five years for each of the remaining five counts, to be served consecutively. The sentences amount to an aggregate term of 30 years. With credit for approximately three years already served, Mann is expected to remain imprisoned for another 27 years. In Defense of Animals launched an alert calling for Mann to be prosecuted and incarcerated, undergo psychological evaluation and counseling, and be permanently prohibited from having contact with animals or children. We submitted 13,491 supporter signatures to Bossier and Webster Parish District Attorney Schuyler Marvin and requested that they be placed in the sentencing record for Judge Craig’s consideration. We are relieved that Mann received a substantial prison term for offenses involving child sexual abuse material. The children exploited to create this material deserve recognition, protection, and justice. Yet justice cannot be selective. All 3,248 charges involving material depicting the sexual abuse of animals vanished without any public explanation. This staggering outcome treats the suffering depicted in thousands of images and videos as though it did not matter simply because the victims were not human. Sexual abuse involving animals is not incidental, victimless, or less worthy of prosecution. It is violence against vulnerable individuals who cannot report their abuse or testify about what was done to them. When thousands of charges involving this material are discarded without explanation, it sends a dangerous message that sexual violence may be overlooked when the victims are animals. Ignoring violence against animals does not make anyone safer. It weakens accountability, dismisses victims, and allows deeply disturbing conduct to go unaddressed. A justice system committed to protecting children, animals, and communities must take every form of sexual exploitation seriously. It is not publicly known whether the animals or children depicted in the material were identified or rescued. Authorities have not released further information about their welfare.
