it sucks spending years getting good at something just to watch a clanker do more and more of it for you i understand how photographers, directors, designers and everyone else going through this feels writing code is fun. i still love writing code but i had to remind myself why i learned to code in the first place it wasn't to write code it was to build things. turn ideas into products. start businesses. make something from nothing code was the tool and now the tool is getting ridiculously powerful an idea that would’ve taken me weeks to try, i can build and iterate on in hours i can explore more ideas, take bigger swings and throw away the ones that don’t work that’s a superpower and somehow, even when everyone has access to these tools, most people are still all talk they still don’t build. they still don’t ship. they still don’t try the work shifted, but the game didn’t it’s still you vs you find joy in mastering the new process

It takes a while to build the confidence, but there's no future where you're manually reviewing every line of agent code. Not much acceleration in that. You need adversarial agent reviews, you need automated testing, and maybe you spot check. That's it. From prompt to production!

i just want to say one thing: the people who can truly use ai as a multiplier are the ones who have spent really, really deep quality time with their craft. and by quality time, i don’t mean just consuming information. i mean understanding, implementing, breaking things, debugging, reasoning, experimenting, and validating. because when you actually understand the fundamentals, ai doesn’t replace your thinking. it amplifies it. you can use ai to move faster, explore more ideas, and make better decisions while still having a deep verification and validation loop. but ai doesn’t replace the learning process. it doesn’t replace the pain, struggle, confusion, failures, and countless hours you have to go through to actually understand something. it’s just like maths. if you never actually practice a variety of problems in calculus, you can’t suddenly walk into an exam and expect to solve unfamiliar problems just because you’ve read the theory. you need the practice. you need to struggle. you need to get things wrong. you need to build that intuition. and honestly, if you’re trying to use ai to replace that part of learning, i don’t think it makes much sense. the deeper your understanding, the more powerful ai becomes as a multiplier.

perfec example is frontend design, after years of AI disrupting the industry, even me a software engineer i'll need a designer for my frontend design taste, not the backend though. This essentially means theirs a difference between the technology and human taste. the frontend matters more than to the human judgement than it's backend. Now you as the software maker should care more on the software details than just vibecoding which results in over engineering in most cases
