Everytime major math breakthroughs unfold I reshare this
It appears that AI is now beginning to accelerate math discovery exponentially (and if not, it’s logically probable that it will soon). Much of the modern world is built upon the assumption that new math innovations are slowly discovered and responsibly disclosed when relevant.

Why is air-gapping “not a solution”? You don’t understand the extent of the air-gapping of these systems. We are talking about fully private networks in underground nuclear hardened bunkers. They are not accessible **AT ALL** from external sources. A manual human on the ground has to activate these systems, physically.

really astonishing to me, somehow, to see how many math professors implicitly understand the goal of the profession to be providing them with a prestigious paid hobby rather than increasing the amount of mathematical knowledge available to humanity yes we're all going to lose our jobs and it sucks and i hope we live through it. and also, this is the most exciting time in the history of math

No; math is not about how things in the universe relate. Math is an abstraction. You can apply it to how things in the universe relate, but you don’t need to. Abstractions exist outside of the domain they are defined in, that’s why they’re called “abstractions”; because they’re fully abstracted from the domain in question. I can define some abstraction right now that has nothing to do with our universe. There are floobs and blops; and anytime a floob is applied to a blop it becomes a blip; and a blip applied to a floob becomes a blop. Now let’s apply a floob and a blop—blip. Now let’s apply that blip to a floob—blop. Does this have anything to do with our universe in any way? No. It’s an abstraction. I can now define theorems from these axioms and build out a field more and more. Math is not contingent on our universe existing; it’s silly to think that’s the case. Abstractions can be defined in any domain; it’s all based on the axioms which are merely definitions. I can define anything, I don’t need the universe as a reference frame to do it
