This year's @IBCShow, the AI bullshit bingo card filled up really fast. Apart from every product being suddenly “AI-powered”, many vendors had discovered agents. Some had apparently built an entire “agentic platform” since NAB. But a chatbot is not an agent. Bolting on Google Gemini does not, by itself, create a coherent agentic ecosystem. Behind the vocabulary contest, more fundamental changes are taking place: • Traditional MediaTech revenues are barely growing, while an increasing share of technology spending migrates to Big Tech. • Customers are reconsidering the economics of putting everything in the cloud. • Consolidation promises efficiencies, but may leave global media groups less responsive to local audiences. • Automation is becoming imperative, but the secret sauce is metadata, not AI.
