@David_J_Bier More than half of our Indian population came to his country after 2010 and most were born in India. I think the backlash has to do more with the rapid increase and new visibility rather than anything Indians actually did.

America is a Western country built on Biblical values. Our society can only be maintained by ensuring that Biblical values remain our common cultural thread. Everything we love about America (individualism, justice, human rights) stems from the Enlightenment, which was downstream of the Old Testament. Western values are not universal, and they did not materialize in a vacuum. So no, we cannot just allow for other religions to gain a political foothold and expect our country to remain the same unless we do enforced assimilation. Liberals believe in the inherent equality of all cultures, so they will never do this. Thus, we would inevitably end up with the same social dysfunctions as the UK and France.

We're talking about people trying to come to America legally, and the White House is celebrating keeping them out simply because they come from Muslim-majority countries. This Islamophobia has no place in America. There should never be a religious test for who belongs here.

Apparently, journalistic objectivity is now optional at @NYMag: the editors officially adopted "genocide" as house style to describe Israel's war against Hamas. This is hardly the first time we've seen an anti-Israel mindset and antisemitic bias at New York Magazine. In the weeks after October 7, NY Mag's own Editorial Director called Israel's war "an attempt to conduct genocide," an utterly ludicrous claim. A 2025 essay in the magazine went even further, using Holocaust terminology to frame the war. It is truly profane to compare the systematic annihilation of six million Jews to a defensive war against a jihadist terror group. More recently, the magazine published a cover story that erased Jews and Israelis from New York’s own cultural reality. This was a deliberate act of exclusion, not the inclusion it claimed to represent. It was a naked effort to crop our community out of the picture. Jewish staffers inside Vox raised alarms about this pattern. They reportedly were ignored. Their views were dismissed. New York Magazine's readers fair, factual coverage. It's not too much to expect stories to be approached with integrity rather than ideology, objectivity rather than dogma. Frankly, this is the bare minimum. I think American race relations would be probably improved if we adopted Latin style racial dynamics rather than maintaining the English racial stratification and separation we inherited. Black Americans should stop seeing ourselves as "African American" and rather just see ourselves as "American" like how black Brazilians just consider themselves "Brazilian." There is zero purpose in maintaining attachment to a continent our ancestors departed 4 centuries ago and we have no material connection to. Black Americans should probably be more intermarried than we already are. If racial barriers were more diffused post-slavery, we'd have more ethnically ambiguous Heritage American black people. The fact black Americans are still so physically reminiscent of continental Africans is a vestige of US of racial oppression. While this absolutely does not "solve" race relations, it does obscure racial boundaries greatly. One of the reasons US racism remained much more oppressive than Latin racism, despite Brazil maintaining slavery longer, was that black Americans are much more visibly distinct and identifiable due to prohibitions on interracial relationships. As a result, race is a much more fluid class in Brazil, and you don't have as much racial agitation and racial politicking. The typical slavery-descended black American should probably look more approximate to Ben Shelton or Zoe Kravitz than Idris Elba or Lupita N'yongo, thus representing their complete integration into the American fabric rather than a separate lump group.

I think we need to prepare for a reality in which the Democratic Party becomes similar to European left-wing parties in regards to antisemitism and radical Islamism

This is not true, and if it were true there would be no need to say it. The unstated implication is that black people occupy a subordinate and socially inferior position in the US. That’s why we should all be opposed to this sort of rhetoric.
