@MichaelKiwi77 @tracewoodgrains In fairness, if your whole frame is about the balance of pain and pleasure across all compute it's inevitable you do this But IMO the value of any moral frame is low if it can't output good and useful things while pinned to the current state and assuming an uncertain future

@MichaelKiwi77 @tracewoodgrains Circling back on this bc I don't think I justified that response particularly well: one of my big issues with far future predictions is that they are so uncertain and unassailable that they basically allow you to posit any universe that helps your argument in any manner

Anyway my position on this is that we do not experientially understand insect pain, we have no good reason to assume that it should share even hypothetical units of measurement with human pain, and treating even human pain like it gets ethically worse linearly is dumb

@EdwinaPJones I get about 6k/steps an hour walking at a comfortable pace, but I can get 2-3k/hour just doing things around the house if I'm intentionally avoiding sitting or standing in place where possible!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, walking more has been my big win this year. I have noticeably more energy for my kids, my legs look CRAZY good, and I feel 100% ready to get pregnant again All this from a daily shift of ~8k steps/day -> 14-16k steps/day

@DickonHares I also walk the dog longer than necessary for toilet breaks, which has had the positive side effect of encouraging him to poop sooner since he knows we're not going to head back in as soon as he goes

@DickonHares Mostly it's stuffing them into other tasks — for example, I do laundry pretty inefficiently now, carrying just a few folded things at a time to put them away Dancing or stepping in place while watching TV or on the phone Trying to move twice as much as the kids when we play

@Alicei_inPains I think women are people, who can behave inappropriately, cruelly, and selfishly when they're terribly depressed and then tell lies to avoid accountability for it. It's interesting that even when you're trying to actively insult me, the only frame you have for that is victimhood.
