@AnnaLeptikon Best wishes for your recovery. +1 on the sentiment. I'm not sure was ever the absolute best version of my physical self, but for a few years running marathons I could feel what that might be like.

@TheAnnaGat I'll be curious to hear what you think after a re-watch. I have fond memories of it, too, but for some reason I have usually felt like not watching it again. I don't know why.

@orzelc University strategic planning committees have been generating LLM-like cliches since before I started as a professor. I saw the strategic plans in effect then.

@krismicinski I used to do a bit of small-scale work around our first house. It usually turned out well enough. Just committing to do something takes me a big step forward.

@krismicinski From watching your home renovation and woodworking here, I'll say that you are better equipped for the fall of civilization than I am.

@krismicinski @pfau That's my part of the conversation I have with prospective majors and their parents these days: Four years from now is a long time away, and if enrollments are down so far now, incoming majors now may well graduate into a favorable market.

+1 for Zweig’s Fantastic Night

These are literally the two most depressing books my geographical region has ever produced and that’s a very competitive market. Why not read instead — or to balance and supplement — Zweig’s Fantastic Night (still in his prime, lush and startling) and instead of Roth, Szerb’s

@krismicinski Going back a model year or two makes a lot of financial sense most of the time. It's fun to experience a brand-new car, though, or at least has its own sort of appeal.
