We are taking steps to refocus the International Student Program on quality and sustainability—and it’s working. Did you know: • In 2026 (January to June), master’s and doctoral students account for 21% of new study permits, compared to 12% last year. • To attract more graduate students to Canada, we brought in 2-week processing for new PhD students and exempted master’s and doctoral students from the provincial or territorial attestation letter requirement, simplifying the application process. The path forward is clear: Canada will continue to attract talented international students to study at our world-class institutions, while creating targeted opportunities to retain the skilled graduates who will help grow our economy and strengthen our public services.
