@RodriTaku I simply reduced BG2 speed by half for smoothness (the game moves the map at a fixed rate, 1px walking & 2px mid-run), as my art doesn't help with so much contrast between layers. I think it's very serviceable, but yeah, I'll keep experimenting.

@ThousandDanny In any case, I think this will become the standard. In my professional experience, where companies literally require employees to use AI, I don't think extremely repetitive tasks will be done by hand unless you're in the process of learning.

@ThousandDanny I used Fable 5 to disassemble/rewrite SML, and I disclosed this as soon as I confirmed I was going that way. I'm not sure about your concerns, as I always understood that it applied to art. After all, there is an insane amount of publicly available code for AI to consume.

@gbs_central @timeextension64 E.g. take the HUD. I handcrafted the pixels, arranged them in the code, and implemented the logic to update it the way I want. Same with parallax, etc. I understand if people dislike AI and think this is a shame, but I don't think it's fair to dismiss it all as AI slop. It's not

@gbs_central @timeextension64 Sorry if I wasn't clear: yes, I did abandon GB Bridge. What I didn't abandon was the idea of porting GB games to the GBA. I use AI to automate the game disassembly/porting, generating a base code to work with and verifying it matches the original 1:1. Then I work on top of that

@timeextension64 @JoeBlack2k All I can say is that this discussion doesn't really apply to my case. As I've explained, I made sure to test pixel-perfect accuracy. I have many tests in place, including the demo in the intro, which is tested frame by frame. The code is simple and easy to follow and extend.

...these projects actually happening or remaining ideas, I'd rather disappoint some people. Most importantly, I can now focus on the parts I enjoy most: manually crafting the pixelart, adding enhancements, and ultimately realizing my vision. (5/5)

I can't even put into words how much this simplifies a port like this, but to me working on the GB Bridge version seems almost stupid now. So, considering I have very limited time, and reducing months of engineering effort to a matter of weeks is the difference between... (4/5)
