BREAKING: The Senate just blocked the Stop Insider Trading Act from advancing. 53–47, with 60 votes needed. ALL 53 Republicans voted YES. ALL 45 Democrats and both independents voted NO. Republicans had also attached unrelated voter ID requirements, and the bill still allowed lawmakers to keep existing stocks. Democrats opposed those provisions and argued the trading restrictions didn’t go far enough. So we get another political fight, and the people writing the rules keep trading the companies affected by them. Fucking wild. Put a clean stock-trading ban on the floor. I want to see who says NO to that.
