Thanksgiving is months away, but we can’t wait. We are SO thankful — both for our partnership with @SMUTeacher and for the generous funding from @NSF. The partnership between SMU and us here at talkSTEM has received an additional $300,000 from the National Science Foundation, under the “Dear Colleague Letter” opportunity for current grantees to further integrate generative AI into their projects. We look forward to developing and testing AI tools that support educators in developing Math Walk stops in their local schools and communities, and engaging educators in sustained professional learning opportunities around GenAI in place-based education. Dallas is jam-packed full of cool sights (and sites): skyscrapers, museums, parks, and so much more! The city is rich with people, places, and things that are impressive, interesting, and informative. In every nook and cranny, we can find STEM in action — we just need to stop, observe, and ask questions. As the leaves change and temperatures (hopefully) drop (seriously, no more triple digits please?!) Fall is a great time to take a walk and appreciate all that Dallas has to offer. But wait, Dallas has almost 350 square miles of land, that’s about 1.48 billion steps! How could anyone possibly cover everything? You (and your feet) can rest easy, because we have a collection of virtual tours that take you all around Dallas, complete with STEM-centric guidance to help you think a little deeper about the STEM that’s all around us. While these videos work as stand-alone virtual visits, we hope they inspire Dallas locals to get out and actually explore these places, in-person. Whether it’s your first time at the @DallasMuseumArt or you have weekly picnics at @KlydeWarrenPark, approaching Dallas with a STEM lens adds a whole new layer of fun! Delighted with this summer's successful run of our talkSTEM Educator Fellowship, supported by @IfThenSheCan (an initiative of #LydaHillPhilanthropies). Tomorrow is #NationalAviationDay, and we're celebrating with help from the @FrontofFlight Museum! In honor of #TheWrightBrothers, we’re taking a close look at their 1903 flyer and asking: “What inspired the gravity-defying duo?” Turns out, birds get a lot of credit! They might make flying look easy (bunch of show-offs…), but it actually involves a lot of physics. Luckily, The Wright Brothers were up for the challenge.
