@ID_AA_Carmack Its practical issues: weeds, dust (falls off exponentially with height), weight of snow, hail hitting straight on, etc. Looked at this and think the E-W fixed alignment with absolute min about of material per panel is the endgame.

it's the lowest cost architecture at scale (independent of region). bc it's the least physical material per module, and able to be automated at a system level. the spread on that vs what is currently being done in the market is most acute in US so messaging focuses on what resonates there... but the gap exists everywhere.

@jorodden It all matters. Density does indeed matter because everyone is power limited. Speed does matter because you can either go btm or once a permit is issued you want to build asap. Cost of course matters as well.

This is sage the planted robot. Such an elegant and simple machine. Cheap steel pipe as the foundation - no concrete, no site prep. Much better land use - 2x the density. Plants grow under the panels so soil is retained. So cool

What does all of this mean? Typically 2x energy density per acre. Much faster approvals. Cheaper. Use of land that couldn't otherwise be used. This is how you use clever technology to go faster.

Great question! Seagliders use a "blown wing" to takeoff at low speeds. The high-speed prop wash is concentrated on the wing so the wing sees fast air and generates high lift, even while the seaglider is moving slowly. We trick the wing into thinking it is flying faster than it is. For takeoff, allows us to takeoff directly from the hydrofoils (no one has been able to do that before). For landing, lets us land slower so we can land in higher wave states. You want the blown wing to focus all the propeller energy on the wing. Bigger props would waste energy above and below!
