Your phone died. So did your ID, your key, and your ticket. TSA's own page: "all passengers must still carry an acceptable compliant physical ID." No acceptable ID now costs $45, and TSA says there's no guarantee it works. Free weekly issue: carryready.co/?utm_source=x&…

Your pipe breaks on the coldest night. The flood waits for the thaw. The break stays sealed by ice until it melts (Univ. of Illinois, 1996). Find your water shutoff before winter. Free weekly issue: carryready.co/?utm_source=x&…

Google raised Nest camera prices on August 31 and blamed component costs. It raised the subscription price twelve months earlier, and a subscription has no components in it. Four products that used to sell at two different prices all landed on the same $199.99 — that's not a supply chain, that's a price list being tidied up.

"Self-fitting" on a hearing aid box sounds like the budget option — nobody helped you, you're on your own. It's the opposite. It's a separate FDA category, and to sell in it a company has to run a study proving ordinary people can fit the thing correctly without supervision. The presets don't face that bar.

An air purifier doesn't make air pure. It's a race: smoke comes in through every gap, the machine pulls it out, and you live at whatever balance they reach. Which is why 99.97% is the wrong number to shop on. That's a filter spec. CADR is the one on your side.

A glucose sensor sold to someone without diabetes isn't a monitor, it's a two-week course. You rotate through the same dozen meals, so once you've seen how each one lands, it repeats itself. The pack is $99 once. The subscription is $1,068 a year for the rerun.

Your deadbolt is fine. The two screws holding the strike plate are about half an inch long and bite into trim, not framing. That's why kicked doors fail at the frame, not the lock. 3-inch screws reach the stud behind it. Roughly $10. Go pull one out and look at it.

Some Nest owners lost thermostat voice control this week. The app still worked fine. That gap is the lesson: a voice command isn't a switch, it's a round trip through cloud services you never knew you depended on. Worth knowing which of yours have a Plan B.

Samsung Health is asking users to consent to AI training on their health data — and reportedly, declining means your data stops syncing and gets deleted. Consent under pressure isn't consent. Check the toggle before you tap through, and export your data first either way.

Apple shipped ECG, irregular rhythm alerts, sleep apnea detection. On blood pressure — the most-requested wearable feature — they shipped an alert, not a number. A startup says its $399 ring gives the number, no cuff. What the giant won't claim is the cheapest evidence there is.
