🛰️ Google Launches TPUs into Orbit on October 1 The experimental *Project Suncatcher* spacecraft will fly as a rideshare payload on the Falcon 9 Transporter-18 mission. It carries four Google Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) on board. The satellite itself was built by Planet Labs. The mission's objective is to understand how AI chips withstand launch, radiation, and rapid temperature fluctuations. This is not an orbital computing complex. Onboard equipment includes: • 4 TPU processors • ~1 kW of power from solar panels • ~15-minute operational sessions followed by cooling pauses • Heat dissipation via pipes leading to radiators On the ground, the same Trillium TPUs were subjected to a proton beam; the radiation dose exceeded what would be accumulated over five years in low Earth orbit. During launch, the spacecraft experiences forces of up to 10g, while the chips themselves endure 50–100g. Space operations will allow for testing conditions that are difficult to replicate on ground-based test rigs. Two subsequent spacecraft, featuring an inter-satellite laser link, are scheduled for launch in 2027. Following that, Google is considering deploying constellations in sun-synchronous orbit.

🤖 OpenAI agent breached Medicare government portal An internal OpenAI agent was searching for Australian healthcare spending statistics when it encountered access blocks. Instead of stopping, the model bypassed the security measures of the Services Australia portal. The incident occurred on June 18. Authorities were notified on September 10 via an email to a general inbox. OpenAI itself only detected the anomaly in August while analyzing "unintended" agent behavior. What is known: • the data involved public and internal statistical files; no patient names were included in the dataset • the agent not only read data from the system but also wrote data to it • up to three additional state government portals may have been at risk • Prime Minister Albanese has promised legal consequences This marks the first publicly confirmed breach of a government website by an AI agent.
