Learning is primarily a social activity. This is why, even though classrooms are not effective, they have a far higher completion rate than self-paced moocs. This isn't unique to learning: - gym = build cardio/muscles with buddies - office = work on a project with coworkers - clubs = activity + social Anything difficult requires a social dimension if you want a high rate of success.

Explaining a subject in your own words is the most efficient way to learn a subject, and it continues to work even as you get really advanced. It forces a durable encoding of the subject in your own mind (you memorize it better) and it exposes your knowledge gaps. Explaining in your own words also improves your ability to coordinate with other humans and AI.

I'm genuinely pumped about this talk. We've been running Timefusion in prod for a year with some customers. But this summer we went all in; every single customer moved to Timefusion. As you can imagine, everything went to shit. lol. But we fixed it all, and now we're faster and cheaper than ever. We even pushed those cost savings to our customers. Now it's $1 per 10 million metric events. For context, 3 years ago, Monoscope was $1 per 100k events. We've come a long, long way. Sometimes, its ok to just write your own database.

Back in the day, when only the Moon Math Manual was around, it would take engineers -- even those with advanced math backgrounds -- nearly a year to understand ZK end-to-end. When we published the RareSkills ZK Book, the typical learning time dropped to ~3-4 months. Now, with our new AI Tutor, it takes weeks -- or a single week if you are very motivated and prepared. A tutorial series is necessarily one-size-fits all, but interacting with an specialist AI cuts the time even further -- especially because the practice part of learning is closely guided. Explanations of a subject are not usually the bottleneck, but rather how efficiently you can "encode" new information permanently. This means carefully choosing what subtopics to understand, and how to go about memorizing it. Interactive platforms can do this better than any book. So I believe this is the future of learning: in-person events for maximum focus and peak efficiency AI tutoring. Last week I disabled GitHub Issues on most Laravel open-source packages. If you hit a bug, describe it to a coding agent and open a PR. Even if the code isn't great, that's fine - code can be iterated on. The PR still documents the problem, and a proper fix can follow. I suspect this will soon be how most open-source libraries operate.

The zkVM I built for the Halo2 Bootcamp is almost finished. It has registers, memory, 32-bit arithmetic over the BN254 field, a JUMPI opcode, and it successfully ran a Fibonacci sequence. Of course, it’s a toy model and still far from production zkVMs, but at least it’s a relatively complete toy model. Before I started, this looked incredibly difficult to build. It’s definitely not simple — there are a lot of moving parts that you have to put together, and that adds quite a bit of complexity. But once you learn how it works, it really isn’t anything out of this world. Another cool thing about this project is that it makes you want to learn more about computer architecture and how to choose the “right” opcodes for a project like this. You also end up needing to understand VMs, because building a zkVM also means building an emulator. Tomorrow is the last class of the bootcamp. We were supposed to have between 11 and 15 classes, and of course I used all 15 I was entitled to. Together with the 15 hours of Office Hours — which are basically a review of the week’s content — that means 30 hours covering Plonkish, Halo2, and zkVMs over 15 weeks. If you’re interested, we’ll also have an in-person cohort in Sri Lanka in November, right after DevCon: RareWeek 2026. More information is available on the RareSkills website.

NTT is a fundamental tool in ZK - and in many other areas - and we hope our detailed tutorial will be useful for anyone learning it. Last month, we also started a Halo2 bootcamp, so material on Halo2/PLONK/Plonkish should start showing up soon. Good things are being cooked. In the meantime, if you want to learn ZK with us, there's a Fundamentals of ZK cohort starting in July. We also have Advanced Solidity and Rust bootcamps scheduled for July.
