I think it's more that a lot of the people who are suddenly against the idea of "devaluing life" were wearing Charlie Kirk costumes and re-enacting his death to glee and giggles, are suddenly clutching their pearls. The same way that the people who think "Luigi did no wrong" lost a lot of moral authority, so did the people thinking that Kirk's murderer did a good thing. So, a lot of people just are being ignored because I glance at their history and see them cheering death when it is someone they hate. Now, there are people who have been consistent, and so I don't immediately dismiss their opinion. But, a lot of the most vocal people on the left have traded their moral authority for cheap dunks.

Extreme and ritualized violence have already been normalized by people refusing to say simple things like "Murder bad" when it comes to the shooting of certain people, like insurance CEOs or right-wing podcasters. The only reason Hegseth thinks people will actually welcome a public execution is because the left has made it clear if you kill the right person, it's totally cool-fine. Hegseth, unfortunately, picked someone they don't want to see killed. He should have selected Glenn Beck instead, and then they'd be lining up to pull the trigger themselves. Now, there are a lot of people who are against this and have been consistently anti-senseless death. You should listen to them -- for example, a lot of pro-life Catholics are vehemently anti-death penalty, no matter the who or why. It is worth listening to them. A lot of small government types are generally jittery about big G-government deciding who lives and who dies more than it already does. But the vast majority of left-wing Twitter provocateurs are just upset the wrong person is going to get shot live on TV.

Yes. This is true. What is also true: Nearly everyone I've seen who takes a position on hating the idea of executing the guy publicly are pro-Kirk assassination, pro-Luigi. It is only the rare few who are staunch anti-death penalty, anti-this specific execution, etc., who also are not ghouls at worst looking to dress up as Charlie Kirk for Halloween or similarly lacking in any actual moral objection beyond they didn't get to pick who is being shot this time.

This is, in fact, horrifying. Over the last several years and decades, we have tried to destigmatize mental health issues, encourage people to get help, because their lives matter.
