Brazil is going through one of the most consequential elections in 60 years and some believe that this could mark the end of a democracy. Current president Lula da Silva, and right-wing candidate Flávio Bolsonaro are now, in the midst of the second round of the election to certify who actually wins. I happen to be in the heart of the election at a pivotal moment and wanted to share a bit of what I've seen in one of the most important cities, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. For anyone who isn't aware Brazil is the 10th-largest economy in the world by nominal GDP at ~$2.6T and is the 7th most populous in the world, with ~214+ million residents. They represent the largest economy in Latin America and are one of the strongest political forces in the region.

Short-medium term social media predictions Instagram and TikTok become socially seen as low status as ai video takes over the platform. Push for more live and long form content. YouTube will likely win again. The pendulum will swing back hard from TikTok’s world changing win with their fyp. IMO

It’s easy to dunk on NFTs and the NFT community right now, especially if you’ve never owned one. But take away the flips and the profits, and that community still had something special. There were the late nights in Clubhouse rooms and the strangers who became real friends. A lot of people found collecting for the first time through NFTs, and plenty of them are big names in the Pokémon card world today. It’s quiet right now because the money is quiet. When the money comes back, everyone who was there will come back with it. Right now, you can't earn a yield on your Bitcoin without giving it up. Cardano is working on Bitcoin DeFi so holders can keep their Bitcoin and earn yield in Bitcoin. If that works, a whole new group of people might start touching it. Sounds like a good reason for Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) to pull up again. That's how James Corbett sums up what the head of the Bank for International Settlements was getting at in a 2021 livestream. He thinks the same idea is now coming back through stablecoins.

Everyone fought the government digital dollar, and a lot of laws went through to stop it. James Corbett thinks a private one could be even worse. Under rules like the GENIUS Act, any stablecoin company that wants to play has to comply. And because those coins are backed by dollars, every person around the world who buys them ends up propping up the US dollar.

"I call it the Bitcoin psyop." For most people, crypto, Bitcoin, blockchain and a digital dollar all mean the same thing. James Corbett thinks that's on purpose. It would make it easy to one day hand people a government digital dollar and call it the freedom they were promised.
