ONGC Strikes Gas off Odisha’s Coast 🇮🇳🔥 India’s Samudra Manthan campaign has delivered an early breakthrough, with ONGC discovering natural gas in its first deepwater well drilled under the mission in the Mahanadi Offshore Basin. > Discovery made 43 km off Konark, Odisha > Gas encountered between 1,441 and 1,452 metres > Well drilled to a target depth of 1,623 metres > Encouraging gas flow and reservoir pressure recorded > First of four planned deepwater wells in the basin > Commercial potential will now undergo further appraisal The discovery does not yet represent confirmed commercial reserves. But if appraisal establishes sufficient recoverable gas, its proximity to the coast and shared infrastructure could support faster development. 👉 India cannot achieve true strategic autonomy while remaining overwhelmingly dependent on imported energy.
