A Statement from President barzani In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful As it is widely known, under the agreement between the Global Coalition and the Federal Government of Iraq, today, September 30, 2026, marks the final day of the Coalition's mission in #Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Throughout the fight against terrorism, and in restoring and strengthening stability across Iraq, the Coalition has stood in support of the Iraqi forces and the #Peshmerga. During their presence, the Coalition forces provided substantial assistance to both the Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga, and even made great sacrifices. Now that their mission has concluded, it will be for the Iraqi Government and the #Kurdistan Region to enter into bilateral agreements with Coalition countries, as circumstances require and in the interest of preserving stability. On this occasion, it is only fitting that we express our gratitude for the efforts and dedication of the Coalition forces. Their role in defeating #ISIS and restoring stability to Iraq deserves our deepest appreciation and respect. We also pay tribute to the pure souls of all the martyrs of the Peshmerga, the Iraqi forces, and the Coalition forces. Their memory will forever be held in the highest honor. As for the Kurdistan Region, many, out of genuine concern, and some, out of hostility and misjudgment, have come to believe that with the departure of the Coalition forces, the Region will fall under threat and its existence will come to an end. I wish to reassure the dear people of Kurdistan that there is excellent coordination with the Federal Government of Iraq to counter any threat or danger, whether it comes under the name of ISIS or any other name. Let any individual or party that entertains the illusion of threatening or undermining the stability of the Kurdistan Region know this: Kurdistan has Peshmerga and heroes in ample number, ready to lay down their lives for the homeland, to defend its people and its land, and to crush every threat and act of aggression. The Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, rooted in the long history of Kurdistan's liberation struggle and born of the blood of martyrs and the tears of their mothers, will endure. In full coordination with the federal Iraqi forces, the Peshmerga stand ready to defend the country, safeguard its stability, and eliminate every form of threat and danger. @masoud_barzani September 30, 2026

The Referendum: The Glory and Pride of the People of Kurdistan. On September 25, 2017, the people of Kurdistan, under the leadership of President Masoud @masoud_barzani and senior leaders, voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence. Regrettably, the international community remained indifferent to this legitimate desire of the people of #Kurdistan. Regional states, despite their longstanding disputes and conflicts, joined forces to halt the progress toward achieving Kurdish rights, employing every measure at their disposal against this democratic process of claiming self-determination. The people of Kurdistan will never cease their struggle and sacrifice to achieve their aspirations, among which independence remains paramount. On the anniversary of Kurdistan's Independence Referendum, we reaffirm that we will always remain the Peshmerga and defenders of our land and homeland, never hesitating for a moment to protect the hopes and aspirations of the largest stateless nation in the Middle East. Immortal glory to the martyrs of the #Kurdish liberation movement. May our nation remain peaceful and prosperous.
