@iced_coffee_dev Haha, yes indeed. It was a year long effort to replace everything with an entirely new thing, that actually worked correctly. Lots of tricks were used to gradually adapt the old code to the new stuff, without breaking existing customer code.
@justix_lol The "prey" ships generate random paths and fly there. The "hunter" ships do the same, but when they come close to a "prey" they change their target. There is no raycasting in this demo, though would make sense for an actual game. Steering is a complicated topic :D
@JKoukourakis Ah, lucky you :D We have to get by with what is publicly available. Which is quite limited, and often not "game ready" (just saw a 500 MB tree). Difficult to show off anything with just programmer's art.
Recently a community member added weapon sway to our samples, using a visual script. Ignore the crappy test level and placeholder assets, just look at that nicely animated gun waving during walking, running and jumping!
@SebAaltonen Maybe not shorter, but we've been using openddl.org for 10 years and are very happy with that. Originally used JSON, but that's not good for asset files. OpenDDL is much more efficient to parse.
We've added screen space shadows to #ezEngine. In the video below, a dense vegetation scene tremendously benefits from this, making the leaves appear much more volumetric.
@SebAaltonen I have asked myself the same thing many times. I did observe that companies pick UE purely for marketing, because it's what's considered high-end. They just don't know any better. Most companies also just don't have the engineering talent for that.
The non-destructive terrain editing in #ezEngine also supports voxel based volumes for caves and complex terrain that heightmaps can't handle.
The video also shows the terrain brushes used on a spline to easily author paths and passages.

@_rayx32 Linux is working, if you are willing to tinker a bit yourself. There are so many distros and Wayland isn't really working yet, but overall it can be built and used:

We could definitely use some help in that regard.
