Do you know that Linux usually reads more data than requested while reading a block of data from file, and stores all the read data into the OS page cache? This may speed up sequential reads from files. But this may also result in the waste of disk read bandwidth and the eviction of the needed data from OS page cache, which, in turn, will increase disk read IO.
