An AI model can top a leaderboard and still be the wrong choice for a business. Perhaps the work needs to stay in a particular region. Perhaps the cost changes once retries and human review are counted. Or perhaps the next model is better for the task, but switching would mean rebuilding everything around it. So which model wins? It depends on the work. Sometimes a frontier model earns its premium. Other times, an open-weight model meets the bar and gives a company more control over where it runs.
