Most people against sleep training seem to think the idea is to put the kid down and let them scream until they pass out. No, the goal is to bring them to a sense of psychological safety without physical contact, in a controlled progression. The result is everyone sleeps better.

Tried to do sleep training tonight for the first time. Dude, I can't do it. The way you're supposed to just leave as she's screaming Dada is AWFUL. No soothing, no rocking, nothing. F that. I'll rock her to sleep till she's 21 years old, I DGAF. 0/10 don't recommend.

You can Ferber, you can extinction, you can snoo, you can cosleep but I'd love to let you all in on a secret: Most people are operating from n=1 or n=2, so they actually don't really know what works for your specific baby, they know what works for a grand total of 1 or 2 babies, and they only know which method works for *one specific stage* at which they tried one specific technique. There are a million factors for which you can't control. Most babies & children can handle each method just fine. It's just not that consequential! That said, do what gives you the best experience of parenting, provided you're not neglecting your child. (And no, CIO/Ferber/whatever isn't neglect, relax. Spend time around some actual neglected kids and repent.)

@Paulie_TE @IterIntellectus Do you think there’s a benefit for a 3-6 month old to cry for 5 minutes with dad sitting in the room saying “shush” but not physically comforting them? That’s most sleep training at that age. You set a timer to intervene, baby adapts and gets strong regulation tools.
