Another banger example, two days after Tayvano (scroll my page), of people working in crypto who have no idea, or have forgotten, the one and only purpose of this entire industry: Censorship resistance. This time it's NEAR, top to bottom: the founder publicly proud of intercepting transactions, and an ecosystem rep whose entire counterargument was calling me an NPC. The founder mistakes a freeze button for a feature, the staff mistakes name-calling for a defense, and the whole org runs on bullshit all the way down. To get what I mean, let's go back to the way-back. Ethereum's original homepage said "Build unstoppable applications." Apps that run "without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third-party interference." Censorship is named in the founding sentence, and "unstoppable" is carved over the front door of this entire industry. If you'll notice, it's the pitch, the promise, and the product in a single word. And back tf off the "you'd sing differently if you got hacked" reply, because: My project Swarm City held funds in the Parity multisig. The code was bad. We lost 42,000 ETH. Price that at today's market and appreciate the tuition I've paid to the church of immutability. Almost nobody on this app has eaten more hack fallout than me, and I'm still in the pews telling you censorship resistance is non-negotiable. Notice, too, that the freeze button doesn't even solve the problem it's sold on. Interception happens AFTER the money's gone, every time. You know what actually stops hackers? Platforms that don't get hacked. Harden your systems, Gracy! That's literally your job at Bitget! Can't understand why you still have one. In a sane world, you lose nearly $400M of customer money, you get fired. Now, NEAR wants a freeze button? Fine. Build your chain. But then the honest pitch goes something like: "Look, we're a bastardization of the crypto ethos, we know it, but hey, we're a solid 30% better than a bank." "Yes, we're embarrassed about it, but at least in this one instance we can do some good. Human liberty? Unfortunately that's not what we do, we'll have to leave that to better men than us. If it's important to you (we understand if it is), go find someone who actually gives a fuck." See what I mean? You have a freeze button? Sell it with some humility. What you don't get to do is intercept transactions and then get self-righteous about it, as though the freeze button were the crown jewel of the technology it LOUDLY betrays. This tech exists for one reason: human liberty. Every freeze button, however righteous its first use, waits for a less righteous hand, which is why everything short of censorship resistance is drift toward control. Not here for that? The banks are hiring.

If you CAN censor, you WILL censor. Today it's hacked funds, you think you're cool with that because theft is immoral. True! But tomorrow it's transactions to and from the truckers in Canada protesting totalitarian government overreach. At least you'll know how you got here.
