Because there isn't enough screaming about AI. For about 25% of my life (which is close to Old Age, ouch), I've worked on a game series called Geneforge. It's about wizards called Shapers who get everything done by creating life. To keep their creations under control, they do two weird fantasy-only things that would never happen in Real Life: 1. They destroy any life they create that doesn't obey it totally. (We delete any AI that misbehaves or says opinions that annoy us, but this is ok because to be bothered by it would be anthropomorphizing it which is bad.) 2. The Shapers destroy anyone who tries to create life without their permission. (The Bernie Sanders AI control law gives up to 20 years in prison for making AI without permission.) In my silly games, these rules prove totally unworkable, the creations revolt, and Bad Things happen. I started these amusements in 1999, which makes me feel almost smart. Where's my MIRI Institute grant? Anyhoo, if you want to enjoy a fun take on this hullabaloo, Geneforge 1 - Mutagen is on deep discount on Steam this week, and it's a lot of fun when it isn't asking you to make wild choices about the Fate of Humanity.
