Your nervous system capacity is the bottleneck of your business. Some learn this the hard way after years of clenching at a computer… The nervous system retaliates and you end up with some mystery pain or “autoimmune disease” When in reality you’re addicted to stress, and the emotions of a nervous system in overdrive. Unless you do a hard reset and rewrite the story your nervous system has been living in you’ll remain the bottleneck. Great information. Anecdotally, this checks out. I have a 70 year old client who has been training extended breatholds for 2 years, and can sustain ~5m breathholds. He does NOT train HIIT. Recently I ran in him through a submaximal 500m row. He put up elite numbers, despite not training at that intensity, ever. Many are sleeping on breathhold training. @ErwanLeCorre and @basedethos (among others) are not. Time to get serious about this training.
Endurance athletes train at altitude to boost red blood cell production. Researchers attempted to see if they could replicate those benefits through a structured breath-holding technique. The results have implications for how we think about increasing maximal oxygen uptake.
