@lodgernator @DocPriyamMD No, because the antipyretic switches of the mechanism telling the body it is cold It therefore reverts to its normal target core temperature and the patient feels more comfortable again!

@PetuniaClarke This is definitely incorrect Febrile seizures are not related to the height of the temperature at all (although possibly related to the speed the temperature rose) Physically cooling them will not reduce the risk of seizures but will make the child feel awful

You do absolutely none of these, because physically cooling someone with a fever will make them feel WORSE Physiologically their hypothalamus already thinks they are cold and is warming them up Antipyretics can switch this off, but physical cooling is WRONG

@eyecup223 Nope, if they are having fever then their body is in control of it's own temperature and is trying to help fight off the infection It will not harm itself by making its own temperature go too high It is a completely normal physiological reaction

@JustJadeNowlol @SusanBrad1ey It doesn't comfort the child - it will make them feel worse! If you feel cold and someone makes you more cold, will you feel better or worse? The body just has to work harder to maintain homeostasis

No Because the hypothalamus works to keep your body in the target temperature range If it already thinks you are cold, cooling it further will only increase these efforts

@JustJadeNowlol I'm not sure what type of evidence you might expect for this? If your body thinks it is cold, and you try to physically cool it down, it will just try even harder to warm itself up! The practice stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of the physiology of fevers

@b_zareen You can give antipyretics such as ibuprofen or paracetamol if the fever is making them feel uncomfortable Otherwise the symptom itself doesn't require any specific management
