The real test of infrastructure isn't how elegant it looks when there are five integrations. It's what happens when there are fifty. Then five hundred. Point-to-point connections feel manageable when an ecosystem is small. As the number of environments grows, every new connection introduces another relationship that has to be built, maintained, monitored, and trusted. Eventually, adding another ecosystem shouldn't mean adding another custom path. It should mean connecting it to infrastructure that already knows how to coordinate the rest.

$292 million released against a transaction that never happened. Attackers manipulated off-chain infrastructure so the verification system accepted a phantom token burn as legitimate. The on-chain transactions themselves looked valid. The underlying asset movement they were supposed to prove wasn't. That distinction matters. A bridge doesn't just need cryptography to work. Every time two systems need a translator, something gets lost in translation. In blockchain, that "something" can be context, time, liquidity, or trust. Five billion tokens. Created from a transaction that never happened. The Syscoin bridge reportedly accepted an invalid proof and minted assets that weren't backed by a corresponding burn. No cryptography was broken. The assumptions were. Every wrapped asset depends on multiple systems agreeing on what's true. When those assumptions fail, so does the representation.
