The fight against disinformation cannot end with a fact-check. It has to become part of the knowledge people can find and trust. That idea set the tone for Day 1 of the Interactive Media Seminar for Electoral Integrity & Edit-a-thon convened by @WikimediaNG & FCA for @fiap_es..
Day 1 focused on building the foundations for that work. 🔹@ayokanmioyeyemi, Programs Director, @WikimediaNG, unpacked the Wikimedia Counter-Disinformation Model, exploring how sourcing discipline, transparency and community editing can structurally challenge false information.
If Day 1 was about understanding where disinformation meets the information ecosystem, Day 2 was about building the workflow to do something about it. In Lagos, @WikimediaNG & FCA jointly implementing the Interactive Media Seminar for Electoral Integrity Training & Edit-a-thon..
The Nigerian Language Oral History Documentation Project, in collaboration with the @LASRABofficial (Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau), has officially kicked off! We began with the distinct honor of interviewing His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Kolawole Abdullateef Lawal Olumegbon Akinwon IV, Olumegbon of Ajah-Ile and Okun-Ajah. To cap off a fantastic start, the crew also spent time at the palace of the Obateru of Egbin in Ijede, Ikorodu—perfectly timed to capture the vibrant Ifowo Orisa and Igbela Odun festivals.
That's a wrap on the 'Wikimedia for Electoral Integrity' cohort in Lagos! Over three incredible days, we joined forces with FactCheck Africa to turn published fact-checks into well-sourced Wikipedia articles ahead of Nigeria's 2027 elections. A huge thank you to all the editors and fact-checkers who dedicated their time to this effort! Next up: Abuja! The Abuja edition of the edit-athon will be happening soon from 28–30 September. A three-day cohort programme run jointly by FactCheck Africa and Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN), with support from the EPSG Project / FIAP. It brings together three groups — Wikimedia editors, newsroom editors and fact-checkers — to turn FactCheck Africa's published fact-checks into corrected, well-sourced Wikipedia articles ahead of Nigeria's 2027 elections.
