Wheel Strategy Lab @WheelStratLab

@jbfinancebull Exactly. Sticking to the plan, not blindly holding. $26 is our strike, $25.82 our net breakeven. Two trading days left. We’re monitoring price action and margin. If assigned, we’ll reassess before selling covered calls. A good process means staying disciplined and flexible.

Ever feel like the market is trading against you? $HAL is underwater. We adapt, sell $CCL puts for $144 net—and two days later, CCL drops below our strike. Frustrating? Yes. But a good process can lose. A bad one can win. Judge the decision, not just the outcome.

We said we’d change tactics. We did. Rather than cap $HAL’s recovery with a cheap call, we sold 8 $CCL $26 puts expiring Oct 16 at $0.20 ($144 net). HAL’s 1,600 shares stay uncapped. Risk: assignment adds 800 CCL shares ($20,800) while HAL is already underwater.

Our $HAL position is tying up capital. Waiting alone won’t generate premium. Monday’s plan: → Screen for a new short put → Half our usual position size → Stress-test margin, including a 5% buffer → No qualified setup? No trade. More activity. Not more leverage at any cost.

4 weeks assigned. Another $0 in premium. $HAL | Cycle #6 We skipped Monday's covered call to protect recovery potential. The rally faded. HAL closed at $32.55, 10.4% below our entry. Recovery remains the priority. But waiting has a cost. Same strategy. New tactics Monday.

Sometimes the best covered call is no call. $HAL gained 3%+ Monday while oil fell. At ~$32, we chose not to sell the recovery for a small premium. Our entry is $36.32. That’s why we waited for the close before posting. No premium. Full upside still open.

September paid us $1,464 in option premium. But the real story is the risk left behind: 1,600 HAL shares, assigned at $36.50, still underwater. Premium collected. Risk still open. October is about monetizing the recovery.

Week 3 closed. +$368 for waiting. HAL closed $31.88. $33.50 call expired worthless. Ideal? A close just below $33.50. We didn’t get the recovery — but kept the premium. Week 4: same problem, new strike.

@AlpsIncome Really like the transparency here — especially showing the open MTM alongside the realized premium. One number I’m curious about: roughly how much capital do you have allocated to the strategy? Would put the $10.3k premium into a really useful perspective.

This is where the Wheel stops being easy. 1,600 $HAL shares. ~-12.5%. No quick recovery. Now the real test starts: no panic exit, no cheap CC just to feel active, no anchoring to $36.50. This is hard. But this is where the process grows. Cycle #6 stays OPEN.

Week 3: new premium, new trade-off. Sold 16 HAL $33.50 calls @ $0.25. +$368 net premium. Est. Hold Edge: ~€586–736 before additional financing. But my target exit remains ≥$36.50. More cashflow. More call-away risk. Tracking both.

First measurement: Hold + CC still leads. Week 2 Hold Edge: +€565–665 vs. Exit + Recycle. The CC increased the edge. The first week without new premium reduced it. That’s the trade-off I want to track weekly. For now, holding still leads.

Cycle #6 changed how I measure assignments. HAL assigned @ $36.50. Goal: exit ≥ $36.50. But waiting isn’t free. Each week I’ll compare Hold + CC vs. taking the loss and recycling capital at my €250–300/week benchmark. Premium. Interest. Opportunity cost. Let’s measure it.

@3PeaksTrading Interesting results. Roughly how much buying power/capital was allocated to generate the $687 net P/L across those 5 trades? Also curious what actually triggers the IC stop — fixed % of credit/max loss, delta/underlying move, or a volatility/regime condition?

The margin interest isn’t the biggest risk. A bad covered call is. 1,600 $HAL shares at $33.26. Carry: ~$15/week. Selling now: ~$4.4k cycle loss. $33–34 CCs pay more, but could lock in a large loss on a rebound. Decision today: HOLD. No CC yet.

@TradeTheCrowd Fair point. That’s exactly the risk we need to quantify. “I don’t want to realize the loss” isn’t a strategy. For Monday, we’ll compare three paths: exit now, keep holding with carrying costs, or sell another CC. The question is when HOLD becomes the most expensive choice.

Assignment isn’t where the Wheel ends. It’s where the real math starts. With 1,600 $HAL shares on margin, every week costs interest. Now the questions: How long can we wait for recovery? What are the odds of getting back above basis? And when does waiting become too expensive?

@BuildwithPublic @public The 3-tick target makes execution a strategy variable, not plumbing. I’d bucket expectancy by spread width and quote age. If the edge disappears beyond a 1-tick spread or with older quotes, the real gate isn’t just market regime — it’s execution quality.

The covered call worked. The stock didn’t. 16 $HAL $36.50 calls sold @ $0.33 → $496 net. Today: HAL ~$33.77. The calls remain far OTM. Premium helped. It didn’t erase the drawdown. No new put. No forced trade. Cycle #6 stays OPEN. Assignment is where the Wheel gets real.

@TheQuietDelta @TheQuietTrader1 @ThetaPhilosophy @WealthCoachMak @HertzyTrades Assignment isn’t automatically a loss. But holding isn’t automatically a win either. We look at CC income, recovery time and opportunity cost. At some point, taking the loss may be the better trade. Where do you draw that line?
