When should you cross the spread in temperature markets? There's no single rule, but these questions cover the majority of it: -Is your edge bigger than the spread plus the fee? Do the math from the market's middle, not from the ask. If your number doesn't clear it, the trade isn't there, however right your forecast is. -How much is actually offered? Size your order to the depth. Buying through three levels of a thin book can cost more than the whole edge. -Has the price already moved? Chasing an ask that's jumped several cents in the last minute usually means paying for someone else's information after it's already priced in. -If you set a resting order, set a timer. Decide how long the order gets, and cancel it when time's up. An order left on the book all day is a free option for everyone with better information.

In our data, busy same-day high markets often trade with a 1–2¢ spread near the action. Low markets are a different world: spreads around 10¢ are routine, and the size sitting near the best price is a fraction of what you'd see on the highs; a very different cost to trade. The book behind the ask matters too The best ask is only the first step. If you want 20 contracts and only 11 are offered at the best price, your order either stops there or keeps buying up the ladder. •A thin book with a gap: 11 offered at 52, the next seller at 58. Buy 20 at market and your average price jumps. •A stacked book: 11 at 52, 40 at 53, 60 at 54. You can get size, but ask yourself why so many people are happy to sell at these prices. Before any trade bigger than a few contracts, look at the depth, not just the top line. But there's a live problem you have to know about THIS week. The ghost-fill sync bug on Polymarket bites hardest in thin, low-liquidity markets. And guess what weather markets are. Thin. Low-liquidity. The exact place the bug is worst. Worse, the reward farmers are parked right there too. They're spamming thick fake orders in weather markets to game LP rewards off the same bug. The thinner the market, the more the ghost bug distorts it. > Use limit orders and skip anything where the book looks obviously farmed. None of this kills the weather edge. It just means you trade it with your eyes open while the platform is shaky. Weather is still your best shot. Just don't walk into the thin markets blind this week.
