Be realistic. South Africa needs as much investment as possible. There are millions of unemployed people in South Africa that will love to have a job (and a pension fund). Foreign Direct Investment is probably the best way to create jobs in South Africa. The ANC has made a mess of employment in SA and we cannot afford to make things worse.

@MrThatGuy15 @IOL So it's fine if a party puts some shady characters as PR reps? A PR rep should face the same scrutiny as a ward councillor. A PR rep also has voting rights in council. A PR rep is elected by a vote. It's not a direct vote, but nevertheless it should not be a faceless person.

@miliswamshuqwa1 @Jarrod_Delport A Mayoral candidate has to be on the candidate list (councillor or PR). Parliamentarians also have to be on the list before the election. The parties that don't want to list names want to manipulate their lists after the elections.

Under performed. We need a better way to align parties in South Africa. Left, right and centre politics. The GNU has too many parties that are mis-matched ideologically. This creates instability and conflict in Goverment. South Africa needs a stable goverment. The GNU is delaying the inevitable.

@henriettefroh @JordiGriff You're confusing issues. Irrespective of how people vote, the law is that the Mayor will be elected by council. We do not have direct Mayor voting in SA. At the end of the day, voters are voting for individuals for council roles (councillors and PRs).

The BELA Act made this easier. The ANC has always pushed that agenda but people still voted for them. Without clear distinction between illegal foreigners and legal foreigners/residents/ citizens, there are always going to be issues like these. The Constitution needs amendments. And many of the laws in SA will also need to be amended to make things clear. At the moments the law is against South Africans who want South Africa to belong to South Africans.

It is in the interest of the public to know who those candidates are. A Proportional Representative (PR) rep is also a public representative. Its an important role in council and the public need to know who is on that list as potential PR reps. A voter could vote for a certain party for the ward councillor and a different party for the PR vote. I have done this in the past, based on the calibre of people on the PR list.

Th Proportional Representative (PR) lists should be available for public scrutiny before the elections. These are public representatives and voters should be able to study the candidates before the election. A party needs to nominate their candidates. Put their names on a list and submit it to the IEC. The IEC must publish the lists and give voters the opportunity to look at the lists. The PR reps are very important in the council so why should voters not know who they voting for? Why must parties have a black cheque as to who they want to put into council? The public must have sight of those candidates before the election.

The PR vote is not for a Mayor. It's a proportional representation (PR) vote for a party. The party is supposed to nominate people for that role before the elections. Submit those names to the IEC. The public can also scrutinise those lists before the election. For me personally, I would like to see the calibre of the PR rep BEFORE the elections,so that I know whom I am voting for. I could also vote for 2 different parties, a certain party that my Councillor candidate is from, and a different party for the PR rep. The calibre of the people on the PR list is important. Why should I not have sight of that before the election? They are after all public representatives.
