Want actual free-market passenger rail? Nationalize the tracks. Treat rails like airports: the public owns the infrastructure, and private train companies pay access fees to compete on the same routes/stations.

@RailAlberta We need to balance things when increasing density, but it's good that landowners can choose to rebuild up to a fourplex. Not everyone wants four units though. It's fine to worry about small increases in neighborhood density, just as long as it's not NIMBY behaviour.
@ABDanielleSmith A gentle increase of density in a neighbourhood of mostly single-family homes shouldn't be a problem. Just because a landowner is allowed to build up to 4 units on a current lot doesn't mean everyone will. This is classic NIMBYism, but the general concern is understandable.
Your regular reminder that the suburban centers that we build in Ontario could look like this, if we did building code reform.
When I think about how we should be building new suburban town centers and TOCs in Toronto/GTA, it should look more like this and less like VMC/Square One. And I think most suburbs would be shocked at how good the economics and quality of life in these places could be.
