Happy Independence Day to Nigeria and to Ottawa’s Nigerian community! 🇳🇬 I was honoured to join members of the Nigerian High Commission, the diplomatic community and leaders from Ottawa’s Nigerian community today as we celebrated 66 years of Nigerian independence. Canada and Nigeria have shared diplomatic relations since 1962, but those ties are also felt right here in Ottawa through business, public service, education, arts, culture and, most importantly, community. As Ottawa celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, it is a great opportunity to recognize the many communities that have helped shape our city and continue to be part of its future. Congratulations on 66 years of independence, and thank you to Ottawa’s Nigerian community for everything you bring to our city. Happy Independence Day! 🇳🇬

Today in London, FCM President @TimTierney joined @CityofLdnOnt Mayor and Chair of FCM’s Big City Mayors’ Caucus, @JoshMorganLDN, Gatineau Mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette and Professor Romel Mostafa, Director of the Lawrence National Centre at the @iveybusiness to unveil the first national benchmark of how Canadian communities are experiencing trade-related pressures and responding on the ground. As governments look to strengthen Canada's economic resilience and competitiveness, investing in local infrastructure will help communities support businesses, attract investment and position Canada for long-term growth. This new research underscores the importance of investing in communities where growth, trade and opportunity happen. More: fcm.ca/en/news-media/… Photo credit: Brandon MacIntosh

For 26 years, @FCM_online's @GreenMuniFund has helped communities turn ambitious ideas into tangible results. As @berryonline, Mayor of Kitchener and Chair of the Green Municipal Fund Council, noted: “Without the existence of GMF, many communities wouldn't have access to the expertise, the dollars or, quite frankly, the resources needed to take on some of these projects.” Guided by leaders from across the municipal, federal and private sector, the GMF Council helps ensure investments from the Government of Canada continue to deliver local action with national impact—supporting projects that build a more sustainable, competitive and resilient Canada. Good news today—as a direct result of FCM's advocacy, the federal government has just launched the Canada Rental Protection Fund, a key element of a multi-faceted approach needed to tackle homelessness and affordability in Canada. FCM has long called for a national fund to protect affordable housing in Canada, prevent people from falling into homelessness and shield renters from renoviction. As a community-led approach, today's announcement on this fund is a positive step in the right direction. We will continue working with the federal government to see a renewed National Housing Strategy in Budget 2026, which should incorporate the Canada Rental Protection Fund and create and preserve non-market housing. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

#munican #polcan

@twitandrewking It’s a great educational tool as well. I always have our grade 5 civics classes, go through the map and identify area areas in the ward.

FCM President @TimTierney spoke to @CNN this weekend to highlight the impact that tariffs have on municipalities on both sides of the border. FCM will continue working with our members and our American counterparts to protect the strong economic ties that support communities across North America. #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

Municipal leaders across Canada are thinking of our colleagues and communities in Cape Breton today as they respond to devastating flooding. To the mayors, council members, municipal staff, emergency responders, and everyone working through an incredibly difficult situation: Canada’s municipal family stands with you. And as these events become more frequent and severe, we must continue to invest in resilient local infrastructure that helps communities prepare, withstand, and recover.

@TimCBaines My thoughts are with you today. Sincerest condolences Tim
