Two men from Maharashtra’s Dhule city have memorised the entire Qur’an after studying at a madrasa. One is a 35-year-old businessman and the other is a 65-year-old retired bank manager. Mohammad Azim Aslam Ansari, 35, and Haji Mohammad Yusuf Ansari, 65, completed their Hifz at Madrasa Taleem-ul-Balighan, which runs at the Jama Masjid in the Firdous Nagar area. Women students at Aligarh Muslim University joined the campaign for long-pending students’ union elections on Sunday. The protest is now in its second week of a hunger strike by a fellow student Yasir Fahad. Students marched from Allama Iqbal Hall to Duck Pond, raising slogans against the university administration. When the march reached Duck Pond, a large number of women students sat down in a dharna in support of the demand. Nadeem Khan, a prominent civil rights activist, was placed under effective house arrest at his Delhi office on Tuesday morning as police sought to prevent him from attending a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against attacks on places of worship and the exclusion of citizens through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Bajpe police have registered an FIR over an alleged conspiracy to murder a Muslim man in retaliation for the killing of Bajrang Dal member and rowdy sheeter Suhas Shetty in May 2025. The FIR was registered on September 23 based on a complaint by Abhishek, 25, a resident of Belthangady, South First reported. According to the FIR, Abhishek told police that his acquaintance Sudeep, whom he had known for more than a year, had spoken about killing a Muslim man to avenge Shetty’s murder. More than 4,000 Form 7 applications seeking deletion of voters from Karnataka’s electoral rolls have been filed across several Assembly constituencies during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with a large number of the targeted voters identified as Muslims, according to election data reviewed by The Hindu. The bulk objections have been reported in both Congress and BJP represented constituencies. Officials have said the applications will be scrutinised before any eligible voter is removed from the rolls. Form 7 is used to object to the inclusion of a person’s name in the electoral roll, including on grounds such as being absent or having permanently shifted. The Supreme Court on Tuesday, September 29, quashed the preventive detention of Mulla Afroz, an accused in the 2024 Sambhal violence case, under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980. A bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sheel Nagu also set aside the Allahabad High Court judgment that had upheld the detention order and imposed costs of ₹10 lakh on the Uttar Pradesh  government. The court held that the Uttar Pradesh authorities could not rely on an alleged confession made by Afroz while in police custody as the basis for the preventive detention order. “We quash the detention order, set aside the judgment of the High Court, and impose costs of ₹10 lakh on the State of Uttar Pradesh for passing the illegal detention order,” the court said. The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday, September 28, passed a resolution calling for the immediate restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, amid protests and a walkout by BJP legislators. New Delhi: Two to three Muslim men who had bought a horse were harassed while taking it home, according to a video circulating on social media. The men were confronted by a person identified as Satyam Pandit, who reportedly recorded and uploaded the incident.

The Delhi High Court on Monday, September 28, sought a response from Tihar Jail authorities on a plea by JNU scholar Sharjeel Imam seeking permission to access research material stored on a pen drive to continue his PhD. Justice Sanjeev Narula directed the jail authorities to file a status report. The court has listed the matter for November 2. Protests at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab turned violent on Sunday amid allegations of the reported sexual assault of a female student, with videos circulating on social media appearing to show people looting shops inside the university’s mall. The videos, which have not been independently verified, show people taking food, electronic goods and other items from shops at the campus mall.
