🚨 Anthropic announced a "public benefit fund." Some are saying this is the beginning of UBI (universal basic income) as AI makes some jobs obsolete and reshapes society.

We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can

Why France is protesting: — Debt is 119% of GDP (similar to Greece in the 2009 crisis) — Deficit spending is almost 6% of GDP (wider than Italy’s in 2011 crisis) — Record poverty rate of 15.4% — Consistent inflation, exacerbated by Ukraine war and now accelerating due to Iran war — Interest rate explosion due to the Iran war (now pays more than Greece) — Privatisation of public assets — Crumbling public services & infrastructure — Poor condition of public schools & lack of teachers — Corruption, cronyism & elite self-dealing — Special tax arrangements for elites and mega corporations who invest abroad — Rising living costs & low stagnant wages (€2k median) — Loss of African territories and exploitation schemes — Police brutality & protest repression — Comedians and journalists censored Quality of life is evaporating in France while the elites loot everything and become more overtly corrupt and repressive as it becomes more clear to the common public how dire the situation is. Macron now has an 82% disapproval rate… The Ukraine and Iran war are the straws on the camel’s back, skyrocketing both inflation and interest rates on debt. Europe simply cannot survive this.

When Sergey Brin, the 4th richest man alive, isn’t dining with Trump, what’s he doing? He’s spending $138 million against California’s 5% billionaire wealth tax. He’d rather working class kids die because they can’t afford healthcare than pay his fair share in taxes. Obscene.

Sacks is right. Anthropic is playing games here. Trying to curry public favor while still holding control and resisting disclosure is annoying. And reeks of desperation.

You’ve put 20% of your equity in an LLC. Whether it serves the public good remains to be seen.

This is what billionaire ownership of the media means: Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta shut down the No Kings account for hours during the height of their protests. Meta suppressed accounts supporting Brazil President Lula da Silva in the recent election. Larry Ellison’s TikTok blocked advertising for a documentary criticizing Elon Musk. Fight back. Defeat oligarchy. Preserve democracy.

It’s been six days since this remarkable woman of Indian origin (see her story, attached) won the #NobelPeacePrize. And the Government of India, her ancestral homeland, hasn’t so much as congratulated her?! Shame on the petty men who have made such a deplorable decision.

Anthropic quietly pitches its own AI safety bill to lawmakers politi.co/4zxDFhl

@kingslyj @INCIndia But TCS is missing from the posts. Why was a private company allowed to 'maintain' voter lists and bypass all scrutiny?

If there were a VIP visit, would roads in cities like #Bengaluru would have been choked because of weekend rush and travel? No, right? This is another example how the system and our politicians fail to anticipate, plan and takes steps to make things easier for the people.

Throughout human history, human cognition has mediated human interactions, systems, and institutions. An unspoken "market for human cognition" exists, pushing each person to work hard to differentiate themselves and get the product of their cognition recognized. This market supports meritocracy, autonomy, and social mobility. But when AI does all the cognitive work and shapes human interactions, systems, and institutions, human cognition has no value. People start seeing their own cognition as weak and inferior to AI-driven cognition. From a philosophical point of view, we are gestating a society that reveres AI and is cognitively enslaved to it. A society that is deeply dependent on the owners of the AI models that produce the cognition it needs. We're indeed creating a monster.

The TV teams (4 reporters in one place) could have easily waited for the opening remarks of speakers to be concluded before screaming their questions for Neha. That is the usual norm of a press conference. But when young reporters have been brainwashed by the top editor and taught to simply disrupt and sabotage press meets instead of actually reporting, this is the end result. Then they will cry foul that they are getting abused on the streets. The channel is led by the same man who before 2014 used to ask the toughest questions to then PM Manmohan Singh and we young reporters used to respect him for his journalism. Sad.
