This one is one of those tracks that I always thought and felt would be performed live much more than it has been. Love this as a show closer but I remember how much I loved this song on the reunion tour. Such a smoking rocker. I've always felt that Further On Up the Road is as much about the people we've lost as it is about those of us still traveling life's highway. We all have people we wish we could see one more time. People we'd give anything to hug again, speak to again, or simply sit beside for another few minutes. And perhaps that's the greatest comfort this song offers. That goodbye doesn't necessarily mean forever. That somewhere beyond the struggles, the darkness, and the miles still ahead of us, there might be another meeting waiting. It's a song about accepting life's inevitable destination without allowing that knowledge to steal the joy, purpose, and meaning from the journey itself. Because sometimes faith isn't about knowing exactly what's waiting at the end of the road. It's about believing that the people we've loved, and the love we've shared, will somehow be waiting for us further on up the road. And to me, that's what makes this song so beautiful. If there's a light up ahead, well brother I don't know 🤷‍♂️ But I got this fever burnin' in my soul So let's take the good times as they go And I'll meet you Further On Up The Road.... Have a Magnificent Monday my friends! 🎸🎷🙌🏻 @springsteen #springsteen

You do not want to miss Alice Cooper's debut show in the Underground Garage! 4 PM channel 21 Sirius Satellite Radio. No matter how good you think it's going to be, it's better! I cannot over hype it. The man was born to be in the Underground Garage.

The show last night in Tarrytown was absolutely breathtaking. We cannot say enough on how much we enjoyed it from start to finish. It's a MUST SEE show for anyone who wants to see extremely talented musicans at their finest. Also the opening act Lace and Lee were phenomenal. Check them out! Sometimes music does so much more than entertain us. It comforts us, moves us, reminds us of our humanity, and gives us strength when we need it most. Tonight was one of those nights. Strengthening. Inspiring. Emotional. And a reminder that we are not alone. Thank you, @johnondrasik . For the music, for your humanity, and most of all, for your courage. @likealatejuliet

This is one of those many Springsteen songs where the imagery is so beautifully vivid that I find myself closing my eyes and becoming the character in the story. It’s as if I’m right there, living every moment, seeing every scene, and traveling every mile through the world Bruce creates with his words and music. Thumb stuck out as I go I'm just travelin' up the road And so it begins..... Hitch Hikin is a song about freedom, simplicity, and the beauty of life's unpredictable journey. It's about traveling light, embracing the unknown, and understanding that sometimes the greatest rewards in life aren't found at a destination, but along the road itself. It's the opening track of the Western Stars album, the song introduces us to a wanderer who has little more than what he can carry and the music in his heart. He's not necessarily running away from anything, nor is he searching for something specific. He's simply moving forward, accepting whatever life and the open road have to offer. Throughout the song, @springsteen introduces us to different characters who give the hitchhiker a ride. Each represents a different walk of life, a different story, and a different moment along his journey. Yet none of these encounters is permanent. People come into our lives, share a little of their world with us, and eventually we go our separate ways. What makes “Hitch Hikin’” so beautiful is its underlying philosophy about life. We are all travelers in one way or another. Some of us are searching for happiness, others for love, peace, purpose, or simply a place where we belong. Along the way, we encounter people who help carry us forward, sometimes for years and sometimes for only a few miles. The hitchhiker doesn't seem particularly concerned about where he'll end up. There is a sense of contentment in not knowing what tomorrow will bring. These words are almost a declaration of independence. The Hitch Hiker doesn't need possessions, promises, or certainty. He has his music, his memories, and the road ahead. And perhaps the most powerful line is the last one. "Catch me now for tomorrow I'll be gone. " It reminds us that nothing in life is guaranteed to remain forever. People, places, opportunities, and moments can disappear before we realize how important they were. And that's the message I take from the song. We spend so much of our lives worrying about where we're going that we sometimes forget to appreciate where we are, who we're traveling with, and the people who help us along the way. Life isn't always about knowing where the road leads. Sometimes it's about having the courage to travel it, appreciating those who share the ride, and recognizing that every mile, every encounter, and every goodbye becomes part of our story. Because ultimately, we're all just passing through. And you know life well..."Well, thank you, pal, she sure can fly" Have a awesome day Spring-Nuts. 🎸🎷🙌🏻 @PamSpringsteen

Probably one of my all time favorite stories from Bruce and definitely where my favorite lyric line comes from. "Man Turns His Back On His Family, Well He Just Ain’t No Good.” There are certain Springsteen lyrics that go beyond a song for me. They become a code to live by. And this is one of them. Highway Patrolman,” from Nebraska, is in my opinion, one of Bruce's finest storytelling songs—a haunting tale about family, loyalty, morality, and the terrible choices we sometimes make for the people we love. At the heart of Highway Patrolman is Joe Roberts, a man caught between the badge he wears and the brother he loves. Frankie has caused trouble, made mistakes and put Joe in positions no brother should have to face. Yet underneath everything—the law, the anger, the disappointment—there remains that bond between them. Because when everything else is stripped away, Frankie is still his brother. And Joe simply cannot turn his back on him. At its center are two brothers: Joe Roberts, a highway patrolman, and his younger brother Frankie, a troubled, reckless man who has seemingly spent his life getting into trouble. Joe represents responsibility and order; Frankie represents impulse and chaos. Yet despite everything separating them, there is one bond Joe cannot escape: Frankie is his brother. That conflict is captured in the song’s central idea: a man who turns his back on his family simply isn’t good. For Joe, that belief isn’t just words. It's his moral code that ultimately tears him apart. Joe repeatedly gives Frankie breaks that he wouldn’t give anyone else. He knows Frankie is trouble. He knows what his badge requires of him. But every time the law collides with blood, Joe struggles to treat Frankie like just another criminal. And Springsteen makes the story more complicated by showing us that Frankie isn’t merely a villain. There are memories of the brothers together—working the farm, laughing, drinking, dancing with Maria. For a moment, we see Frankie through Joe’s eyes, not as the man everyone else fears, but as the little brother he remembers and loves. Then everything changes. Frankie becomes involved in a violent incident, and Joe receives the call. He finds him and pursues him through the night toward the Canadian border. This should be the moment when Highway Patrolman Joe Roberts arrests Frankie. Instead, Joe watches his brother’s taillights disappear. He pulls over. And he lets him go. That’s what makes the ending so devastating. Joe doesn’t triumph. Frankie doesn’t redeem himself. There is no happy ending. Joe simply sits beside the highway while the person he loves disappears from his life. And Bruce leaves us with the hard question: What happens when doing your duty means betraying your family—and protecting your family means betraying everything you’ve sworn to uphold? There isn’t an easy answer. That’s the brilliance of “Highway Patrolman.” It’s not really a song about a cop chasing a criminal. It’s about a brother chasing his brother. The badge says one thing. His heart says another. And ultimately, Joe chooses his brother. Not because Frankie deserves it. Because Joe loves him. That distinction is everything.
