Since sleep hygiene is included in my Meal Plan teaching, I've been been explaining this to my clients for a while. Dr. Ralph Mistlberger, is psychology Professor at Simon Fraser University and a neuroscientist who studies sleep and the body’s circadian rhythms. Mistlberger says that current research indicates that choosing permanent standard time over permanent daylight time would have been the healthier choice, but that the government survey didn’t give the public that option. The government only gave us two options — to keep the twice a year time change, or switch to permanent daylight time. Permanent DST would put NJ sunrise past 8am for 2½ months (Thanksgiving into Valentine’s Day), to nearly 8:30am in January. It disrupted business and cost lives when last tried. DST makes us to set alarms an hour earlier than Standard Time. Permanent DST is against federal law.
