On Thursday, I participated in a panel discussion at the sixth annual Western Pennsylvania Legislative Reception. Among the topics we discussed were public transit, skill games, data centers and workforce education. The event was hosted by the Manufacturer & Business Association, Washington County Chamber of Commerce and The Pittsburgh Business Exchange.

Yesterday, I joined The Dom Giordano Program – Talk Radio 1210 WPHT to discuss the Speaker of the House’s recent remarks on 9/11, wherein she alluded to 9/11 and potentially future terrorist attacks being caused by Republican policies.   Leadership comes with a higher standard, and the office of Speaker carries a responsibility to represent the entire House with judgment and restraint.   On the eve of the 25th anniversary of September 11th, that standard was not met. The Speaker’s remarks crossed a line, and the Pennsylvania House should say so clearly. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington), who serves as the Republican Whip and issued this statement: “The 25th anniversary of 9/11 is a moment to remember the victims and honor the first responders who ran toward danger that day. Using that moment to pivot into ‘the brutality of this federal government’ and to tie acts of terrorism to policy disagreements is offensive to say the least. The Speaker of the House inferring that Americans brought this disaster or other future attacks onto themselves is an outrage and a spit in the face to those who lost loved ones that day. “As a combat veteran of the War on Terror, I am deeply offended. American democracy has changed the world for the better, and I am proud to have stood beside many patriots who fought to protect this country from those who sought to harm it. “In the near future, I will be circulating a resolution to officially condemn Speaker McClinton’s remarks. I call on all of my colleagues in the House of Representatives to join me. The acts of terror on Sept. 11, 2001, were attacks on the very values and beliefs that make America great, not a justified response to politics. To think otherwise is dangerous and only contributes to rising political tensions across the country.” # # #

This evening, I had the honor of speaking on behalf of the House Republican Caucus as part of a historic session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. In honor of the nation’s 250th birthday – and the foundational role Pennsylvania has played in our nation’s development – the House convened a legislative session in Philadelphia’s historic Congress Hall. Congrats to @canon_mac wrestler Marlee Solomon on winning gold medal at 53 kg division at the U17 World Championships earlier today. This capped off a fantastic summer for Marlee. She also captured the U20 Pan-American title and a Fargo national championship. We are so proud!

Today, House Speaker Joanna McClinton had Rep. Eric Davanzo removed from the House floor due to his jacket. She claimed it is a costume. We have members who wear camouflage jackets and hats. As we approach our 250th birthday, apparently patriotic attire is not allowed.

The indefinite closure of Locust Avenue in South Strabane Township between Hudak Hill Road and the I-79 interchange has caused significant difficulties since the landslide in late March. PennDOT said it hopes to receive funding to repair the slide starting this summer.

As part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Keep Our Republic is holding an art contest for Washington County students. Further details below and at keepourrepublic.org/contest/#submit.

Trinity High School (@TrinityAreaSD) students and teachers are visiting the Capitol as part of the annual Career and Technical Education Day. It allows schools to exhibit their educational programs to members of the Legislature. My daughter, Lucy, is among the participants.
