To all observing Yom Kippur across Westchester and the Bronx, I hope you have an easy and meaningful fast during this time of reflection and prayer.

This week on Capitol Hill, I had the opportunity to speak at the American Hellenic Institute’s annual commemoration of the invasion of Cyprus. In my remarks, I highlighted the strategic and economic role Cyprus plays in the future of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as the importance of protecting the ethnic Greek community’s right to embrace their religion and culture freely and fairly.

Across the country, small businesses are hiring veterans, individuals with disabilities, and other employees who traditionally face barriers to entering the workforce. That's why I introduced the Incentivizing Small Business Employee Retention Act of 2026, so that our small businesses can receive an additional tax incentive to hire and retain these valuable employees. I look forward to advancing this legislation to support small businesses who are investing in the community and the local workforce.

I had a productive conversation with CEO Maggie Timoney on how we can work together more effectively at the local and federal levels, followed by an insightful Q&A with Heineken staff on strengthening partnerships between our communities and businesses in White Plains.

Twenty-five years ago, New York suffered an unimaginable loss, but the patriotism, resilience, and unity that followed can continue to serve as a guiding light through moments of devastation. My condolences and prayers remain with the loved ones of those killed in the attacks of September 11th, including over 200 people from Westchester County and the Bronx, as we remember that harrowing day and those who continue to live with its consequences.

This morning, I had the privilege of helping honor the late Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey, a fierce defender of democracy and former U.S. Representative of Westchester County and the Bronx. I joined with the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, and local elected officials to officially dedicate Kensico Green as the “United States Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey Community Green” to ensure that her legacy will be remembered for years to come. May her memory be a blessing.

This past weekend, I was honored to attend the 9/11 Ceremony at Patriots Park in Tarrytown to remember the brave men and women who were called to serve that day and the countless lives lost. As we approach the 25th anniversary of this tragic day, I commend all who continue to keep alive the stories and memories of those we lost preserved for generations to come.

Today we celebrate the contributions of the labor movement to our nation, particularly the vast workplace protections and infrastructure we enjoy every day. As Labor Day also marks the unofficial end of the summer, I wish everyone a great start to the school year!

Disaster relief should never be political. As a government agency, FEMA should be aiding all Americans during a disaster, not just those that agree with their political leaning. This partisan roadblock impacts not just New Yorkers, but every American relying on federal support in a crisis.

This week on the House Floor, I called attention to the urgent need to address the long-term outcome for Social Security benefits. I implore all my Congressional colleagues to fix the funding gap before hard-earned benefits disappear due to lack of funding.

I signed the discharge petition to force a vote on a bill to authorize state attorneys general, victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his co-conspirators, and members of Congress to challenge the DOJ in court for its failure to comply with the disclosure requirements of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. I look forward to voting on this bill when it reaches the floor and doing whatever is necessary to serve justice to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and support the rule of law.

Today we lost a fearless fighter for equality, Gloria Steinem. She worked tirelessly to advance women’s rights by advocating for the Equal Rights Amendment, which would guarantee the rights of all Americans, regardless of sex. Her influence and impact will be remembered for generations to come and I share my condolences with her family, friends, and all who were inspired by her legacy.

Here is the week we're having in D.C.

Canada isn't just a neighbor; it's a key trading partner and an important strategic ally in the Western Hemisphere. Trump's latest trade war with Canada hurts both Americans and Canadians and is just the latest example of self-inflicted injury to our economy and international standing. Now, doubling down and changing the name of a Great Lake we share out of spite. These tariffs push us further into the affordability crisis, passing unnecessary costs onto consumers and making everyday goods even more expensive. The American people need an economic strategy that prioritizes and protects their hard-earned money over thoughtless ego-driven posturing.
