CBN JUST MADE MONEY CHEAPER TO BORROW. HERE'S WHAT THAT ACTUALLY MEANS Think of the CBN as the biggest bank in the country, the bank that all other banks borrow from. MPR (Monetary Policy Rate) is basically the "price tag" the CBN puts on lending money to banks. Today, that price tag dropped from 26.5% to 23%. That's a big cut, the biggest in a while. What that means for regular people: when it's cheaper for banks to borrow from CBN, it usually gets a little cheaper for you to borrow from them too – loans, mortgages, and business credit. It can also mean slightly lower returns on things like fixed deposits and treasury bills going forward. CRR (Cash Reserve Requirement) is how much of your deposit banks must lock away and can't lend out. That stayed the same today: 45% for regular banks. SFC (Standing Facilities Corridor) is just a technical buffer zone around the main rate, also adjusted today, but this one matters more to banks than to you directly.
