🚂 This week is See Tracks? Think Train® Week (Sept. 21–27), marking 10 years of this national rail safety observance from @olinational, and it hits close to home for us at Ports of Indiana. Rail safety isn't just a slogan for us; it's part of daily operations. Our ports in Burns Harbor, Jeffersonville, and Mount Vernon rely on rail as a core part of how we move cargo. Rail connectivity is one of the things that makes our multimodal ports work: freight moves seamlessly between vessel, truck, and train, and that means our teams, tenants, and neighboring communities regularly share space with active tracks. The message is simple: see tracks, think train. Twenty-five years ago today, September 11, 2001 changed our country forever. For many of us, it is a day we remember in exact detail — where we were, who we called, how it felt to watch the world change in real time. Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the first responders and everyday people who showed extraordinary courage, and hold space for the families and communities still carrying that loss. Big news for the Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon Megamodal site: it just earned a Silver designation through REDI Sites (Readiness Evaluation for Development and Investment), the @SiteSelectGuild's rigorous third-party certification for development-ready industrial sites. Located at Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon, the 544-acre site was independently evaluated by @terraconlife across five categories — utilities, ownership & entitlements, environmental, ease of development, and logistics. What sets it apart: true barge, rail, and highway access, OmniTRAX rail service, and its location within a designated foreign trade zone. This designation gives site selectors and prospective companies independently verified confidence that Mount Vernon is ready to move fast — a difference-maker in a competitive site-selection process where speed matters. Celebrating Ports of Indiana-Mount Vernon’s 50 Years on the River – 1970 Where do you put a port that will serve Indiana for generations? In 1970, engineers from Sverdrup & Parcel studied three possible sites and chose the location east of Mount Vernon, citing strong high ground for industrial development and natural island protection from the river's currents. #PortsofIndiana #MountVernon50 #EngineeringHistory

🌸 You may have spotted a little extra color on the river last week — the Big Hope 1 made its first-ever stop at our Mount Vernon port! This isn't your typical barge. Operated by @CeresBargeLine, Big Hope 1 is a one-of-a-kind, bright pink vessel launched in 2012 as a floating tribute to everyone affected by cancer. The idea came from Ceres employee Vince Schu and his wife, Julie — both of whom had family touched by the disease. Jeffboat shipyard donated the labor, and @SherwinWilliams contributed 200 gallons of pink paint to bring the vision to life. But don't let the color fool you; Big Hope 1 is a fully working cargo barge, hauling soybeans, ore, and industrial project cargo up and down the inland river system just like any other vessel in the fleet. The difference? It's raised more than $2 million for cancer research, with support going to organizations like @GatewayforCR, based in the Chicago area. This trip took Big Hope 1 from New Orleans up to Mount Vernon — proof that its mission travels just as far as its cargo.
