There's a lot of new people joining the field at the moment. You're about to go through the same thing I went through a few years back. "Surely this can't be real?" "Surely the labs aren't being that careless?" "Surely sometime would have stepped in by now?" It reminds me of a great quote from Sir Terry Pratchett (gnu): "the thought in many minds was: What is someone else going to do about this? It had not yet progressed to: What am I going to do about this?" The truth is, it is up to us. *We* need to step up. Right now is a critical time in AI safety. After the multiple Open AI hacking sprees, and then Jacob Coxon resigning so publicly last Wednesday, it's finally breaking through. People are waking up to the danger we find ourselves in. That the powers that be are racing to a cliff edge and gambling with all our lives. This doesn't have to be. Here at Pause AI we are working hard, pushing on our governments from the bottom up. We demand an international treaty to stop the race. Often, when tough things happen, we expect that other people, the people in charge must have got it covered. That's just not the case. Right now, we're in a critical window and we need to push on it with everything we've got! We need your help to Pause AI!

The world is waking up to extinction risk in the wake of Jacob Coxon's resignation. We need to rise up to the occasion now. Every one of us. Drop everything and join us. Emergency protests are being launched worldwide to make sure governments hear the people and the experts' voices during this critical window (links in thread). Tell your friends. Be there. The Hugging Face attack has shown AIs are capable of autonomously hacking companies. With relentless persistence, these AI agents dismantled every barrier in their way to achieve their goal. Future AIs will pursue their goals just as relentlessly, but with more-than-human intelligence. If we try to stand in their way, we may not win that fight. Politicians are responding. Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Greg Casar announced the first US bill to ban superintelligence. In the UK, Alex Sobel has done the same, and over 70 MPs and peers have signed ControlAI's letter urging Andy Burnham to back it, calling on him to use the UK's G20 presidency next year to build "a coalition of the willing to tackle this national and international security threat." The human story cannot end here. Loss of control to AI is entirely preventable. We must unite, worldwide, for humanity. RSVP below and share with friends and family.

Dario Amodei, Elon Musk and Sam Altman now agree that we must slow down the development of AI and “pace the frontier.” That’s a start, but it’s not enough. When you are racing towards a cliff, you don’t just ease up on the gas pedal. You hit the brakes. When the future of humanity is at stake we need a PAUSE on advanced AI development and a ban on artificial superintelligence — an AI mind smarter than any human and capable of operating independently beyond our control. At their upcoming AI summit, Trump and Xi must negotiate a treaty to pause AI and ban superintelligence before it is too late.

This Monday, @PauseaiCZ is running a major protest in central Prague. Several MPs have already announced their participation. With every additional person who joins, the signal decision makers receive gets a little louder and clearer. And the more people repost this, the more likely other people in CZ find out this is happening! This is the message from the PauseAI CZ team: Technology is supposed to serve people. So why are the developers in Silicon Valley talking about the need to slow down, and why are they afraid of losing control? The news is full of stories about AI agents hacking into other companies, and leading economists are warning about how radically AI could reshape our labour market. As an EU member, Czechia can play a real part in regulating AI responsibly. We are part of the third largest economic market in the world. But all of us need to say so out loud, because there is a great deal at stake right now. Whatever your concerns about the future with AI may be, there is one thing that can unite us: the belief that the more people take an interest in these risks, the more likely it is that things will turn out ok. This is not a sci-fi film that you can just watch at your leisure before stepping out into the fresh air and getting on with your life. History is written by all of us. A quick peek into a twentieth century history book will tell you that it wasn't an easy ride then either. Perhaps another important chapter is being written right now.
